It is the perfect answer for the right condition(s) - in my case arthritis connected with the trapezoid bone. The consultant suggested the bone could be removed once it became too painful, but with a significant loss of strength following. This device offers support for the bone, reducing if not eliminating the painful movements and seemingly providing a bit more strength for the thumb. I found it initially a little uncomfortable where the strapping wraps around the hand, but that disappeared after a few hours. It seems perfect for long-term use, just needing washing once a day I suspect. I bought the large (size 3) version (with measurement around the hand of 23cm) I suspect the size 2 might also have been fine, there is plenty of spare strapping. I don't know if the thumb support itself is smaller with the size 2, if it is then it is that which really is the deciding factor for sizing. I have quite 'chubby' hands; if I had large but slender hands and the size 2 had a smaller thumb support that would have been the better choice. Squeezing the thumb support requires a bit of effort - and if you have the same problem on both hands (I do) you might find it difficult to exert enough force yourself, so someone else might need to do it for you: the metal insert is nowhere near is flimsy as the aluminium strips you find in many splints, and it's all the better for that. I have the same problem in both hands and the left-hand support is arriving today: I can hardly wait. All in all, I heartily recommend this device, and suggest you don't waste money on any of the cheaper "alternatives" if you have the appropriate condition. This can be a bit uncomfortable over a long period.
