Great Headlamp for the price
PRODUCT: JS Products "Illuminator" Motion Sensor HeadlampREVIEW:Lamp: This lamp has a wide-angle beam pattern. It does not cast anarrow, long-distance beam of light. So, it will not impress you withhow far the beam will go. Frankly, I don't see much use for the narrowbeam because at night you are not usually interested in seeing things100 yards away. Instead, you are interested in seeing if your next stepwill land on firm ground. Or, you want to see something that you may beworking on at arm's length. This lamp's beam is wide enough so that youare not distracted by trying to turn your head to place a small spot oflight where you want to see. Instead, everything within your field ofvision is evenly illuminated. There are no "hot spots" in the beam pattern. The lamp has 3 brightness levels. The lowest level deliveredplenty of light for all but the most demanding situations (for my 20/20vision). There was no perceptible flickering of the light, even on thelowest level. A possible shortcoming is the mechanism for adjustment of the lamptilt. This is plastic, and I expect it would wear out after numerousadjustments. I would recommend adjusting yours for the most pleasinglight pattern and then leaving the adjustment alone.Headband: The headband includes a top strap, which I have found to benecessary for keeping the lamp in place. Many similar products lack thistop strap. The strap is comfortable, and the foam backing on the lamp isvery dense, which indicates to me that it will last well withoutbecoming soft or deformed. One minor flaw is the arrangement of thecable from the battery case to the lamp--it may be vulnerable to failurefrom repeated bending and stretching where it enters the lamp or thebattery case.Motion Sensor: This feature is supposed to allow turning the lamp on andoff by waving your hand in front of it. It did work, but it seemed tohave a mind of its own, not always doing what I wanted. I found it wasmore foolproof to just use the ordinary switch (which you must touch).Battery Case: Apparently some competitive products use a "living hinge"on the battery case. (This is a hinge made from a very thin bit ofplastic.) These are a clever and cost-reducing feature, but they maybreak after the batteries have been changed a large number of times. The"Illuminator" instead does not use a living hinge. A rather clever capis removed by twisting. This cap includes an O-ring seal to keep out therain. The only drawback is that it takes some practice andexperimentation to open and reclose the battery case. The instructionsdo a very poor job of explaining how to do this.Battery Life: The manufacturer claims a battery life of 3 hours on thebrightest setting, 4.5 hours on the "medium" setting, and 9 hours on thelowest setting. I did not verify these claims. Some competitive productsslowly drain the battery when turned off, but this product does not seemto have that problem--The batteries still have plenty of energy leftafter being installed in the product for a month.Hard Hat Use: The strap has additional clips that conveniently fold downto hold the lamp securely to a hard hat. I tried it on my hard hat (thekind with a short bill), and it worked perfectly. I'm not sure how wellit would work on the "pith helmet" type of hard hats that don't have a bill.Overall Impression: This is not a ultra-high-quality lamp with a metalhousing. That said, it is fairly rugged, and has an excellent, bright,hot-spot-free beam pattern. It won't win any bragging rights about howfar the beam goes, but it is perfect for walking at night or working onthings at arm's length. With its hard-hat feature, it would be ideal forconstruction workers and the like. I enjoy backpacking, but like to "golight". In my opinion, this product is too big and heavy (including thethree AA batteries required) to be a good choice for backpacking use. But, it would be ideal for "car camping".

Best head lamp I've found
Excellent light, the hooks where better than expected. The motion sensor isn't really useable because it's set off by any object close to your head. I about blinded a coworkers with it

This turned out to be a very impressive head lamp (especially for the price). Used Petzl Tikka's and numerous off brand LED head lamps in the past and this one is literally a night and day difference. Love the wide flood lighting it produces to be able to see peripheral and the red light in the back gives a sense of your being seen from behind also. Used the clips on a hard hat and worked out without any issues. Hands free feature helps with operation when you're wearing gloves in the cold. I'm surprised these aren't more popular.

Does not work. It worked right out of the box for about 5 minutes. Now, only the rear red light works. I checked and swapped batteries and it still doesn't work. I will be returning these and purchasing a different brand.

a great light for close quarters or night bike riding
a great light for close quarters or night bike riding . This light gives a full wide range of view about 180 degrees as other have stated not a spot light. I work in dark areas (attic, crawl spaces, ect.) this light never has failed me it has been a year since i got it and it shines like a champ actually buying 2 more . The no hand feature works great just wave your hand in front of you and BOOM you have light or can turn it off no need to push a button .

Amazing headlamp, don't buy another cheap POS
This light is awesome, I bought 2, 1 for work and 1 for home. The output is amazing and the motion sensor is awesome too. The hard hat clips are a nice touch as well. The only gripe I have, which is rather minor, is when using the hard hat clips, it would be nice if you could adjust the clips so that you could keep the light further down onto the brim of that hat. Not a deal breaker but nice regardless.
