A useful addition when running a headless Mac.
I am using a headless Mac Mini as a music server and connecting to it with VNC. The problem I was having was that resolution offered was not very great. With this I am now offered 1080p which fills the screen of my laptop, side to side making it much more usable. I hoped it would offer me the full resolution for the laptop (1900x1200) but it doesn't. This minor failing might be to do with the Mac Mini and not the CompuLap fit-Headless. However, this minor "letterbox" aspect, does not pose too much of a problem.

A simple solution to an annoying problem
I recently set up my old Mac mini as a server. I replaced it a few months ago with a Mac Pro, and wanted to muck around with OS X Server, taking advantage of some of its features, especially centralized Time Machine backups and software download and update caching.I set up the server, but, since I’m running it headless – with no attached display – I could only view it in one resolution using OS X’s screen sharing feature. If the Mac mini runs headless, the GPU, not detecting any display, doesn’t activate. There’s a way around this, however, and it’s pretty simple. I bought this CompuLab HDMI Plug with Remote Desktop Access. This dongle fits in the Mac mini’s HDMI port, and emulates the presence of a display. With this attached, there are a number of different resolutions, from 1360 x 768 to 4088 x 2304.I’ve chosen a low resolution, since running it at, say, 4K resolution makes it so tiny that I can’t do anything. The only downside to me is that all the resolutions are 16:9; I’d have preferred something with less width. This is a really simple solution to an annoying problem. If you’re running a headless OS X server, you should definitely get one of these. It will make your life a lot easier.

Plugged this in to my Mac mini and can't tell the difference.

This thing just works!
I was trying to run a Windows 8 PC without an attached monitor (headless), but ran into issues when accessing it via Remote Desktop software from my iPad (Splashtop app).Due to the lack of an attached monitor, Windows sets a default resolution of 640 x 480 (with no others available to select), which was useless and meant that most dialogue boxes were spanning beyond the edges of the screen - also some apps will not run at this low resolution. Trawling the Internet forums yielded little results, until I happened upon this gem of a device. You simply plug it into the PC HDMI socket and fire up the machine. Remote Desktop into the PC and when you select the screen resolution option, it's listed as 'fit Headless' and offers a range of resolution to set. Remote Desktop solutions normally adjust or have an option to adjust the resolution, but the problem was, that they were none originally for the software to select from! This device comes good on its promises and has solved a very annoying issue for me - buy with confidence!

Does exactly what it says on the.. uhh.. product page.
Works as described. I'm using it along with a Steam Link for streaming games to my TV. The problem is that many games will default to a lower than 1080p resolution if no monitor is present. Plug in this and Steam Link will be able to stream at full 1080p. Works exactly as described. Here's a tip I'll drop in for Steam streaming, if you are having issue with no audio on your streamed games plug in an old set of headphones (or a cheap Poundland pair) to your PC audio port. This should sort the issue. This has nothing to do with this item, but it took me a while to figure out the issue and I figure it could help someone to mention it here. There are other solutions to this issue, but this is the easiest fix.

Does not offer up to 4K on M1 Macs
Bought this to emulate high resolutions on a headless M1 Mac mini, but it only offers up to 1080. The device appears as "fitHeadless4k", but no 4K to be seen anywhere, even when using apps like EasyRes which show hidden resolution options. Waste of money.

Great little device for Headless Mac set-ups (or PC)
Great little device!Connected to my MacMini so that I no longer need to have a real Monitor into it, now I can access it through 'Back to my Mac' and it runs at full speed (MacMini only switches on the accelerated GPU when it thinks a monitor is connected, otherwise it noticeably slows down.)This little dongle works a treat, although it states it supports 30 resolutions, the Mac only recognises about 10 - some of them are really high and the icons get a bit too small to read however I found the optimum setting in my case was to use the 1080i preset in the apple display panel in the built in settings (no additional software required, however there are some utilities out there that 'unlock' the hidden resolutions as well)

Easy workaround for bugs in MacOS screen sharing.
Sad to say I am very pleased with this gadget. Sad because Apple's Sierra OS makes screen sharing unusable with a headless Mac Mini and, as I hoped, this provides a workaround. Plug it in and the bug just goes away. It seems to me also to provide a workaround for a different bug in an older version of MacOS that means a shared screen does not redraw correctly - very irritating rather than disastrous, but a welcome extra. Really if Apple isn't going to fix its software (and there's no sign that it is intending to do so) it should offer one of these to every owner of a Mac Mini.
