I was wrong, happily! It takes a minute upon first use to reveal it's actual grit, you'll find that getting the bar started on a rough patch, like a callus will help. The grit, I'd say, is maybe a tad more refined than table sugar which I had actually started using after being desperate for an exfoliation answer for ingrown hairs. There's no scent so once I had a good exfoliation lather, I used my hyaluronic acid body wash.
