Works but please read instructions first!
My poor chicken was getting pecks until her comb drew blood. I was worried for her safety. I bought this and it worked like a charm.WARNING: Please read the instructions very carefully. I didn't realize I would be spraying a blue spray that stains instantly. Good thing I was wearing old clothes but my hands were blue instantly. I ran to scrub them off, but this sets very quickly. Wear gloves and be very careful where you aim. You will need another pair of hands holding the chicken to make sure you don't accidentally get it in their eyes (if you are spraying near the head area). So unless you are auditioning for the Blue Man group, wear gloves and old clothing and shoes!ONE MORE THING: It will also stain the chicken comb to look black. Not sure if that is a deterrent but it's been over 2 weeks and my poor hen's comb is still black. Not sure when that will wear off but happy that I have not seen anymore blood.

A veteran dog-raiser introduced me to this product over a decade ago, and I used it on my Am-Staff whenever he would get hot spots.Pros:1) Does provide relief from the dog biting or scratching and making raw spots.2) Bright dark purple color means you can see exactly where the spray has been applied.3) Low priceCons:1) Bright dark purple color. If your dog is really active and bangs into furniture or walls when agitated before the spray has dried, then you will get purple smears around your house.2) Brand recognition. My dog learned to recognize this bottle and would dodge my spray attempts.3) The environmentally-friendly pump does leak, and you will have bright purple finger tips on your dominant hand for a day or so. It does eventually come off.APPLY this product OUTSIDE and let it dry on your doggy to avoid purple stains all over your house!

Blu-Kote spray - Great for pecked birds.
This stuff is great for poultry pecking. It is cheaper at TSC but if you don't live need a TSC this is great. It is not only an antiseptic, but the gentian violet helps to prevent pecking because it turns the feathers and skin purple. I understand this is not to be used on meat birds so check about layers too if you choose this. When my birds are mating Blu-kote is priceless for pecked birds. It doesn't stop cock fighting, but it does stop pecking one spot into looking like raw beef. If you want something which turns off pecking, try the Peck No More. Once the birds get it on their beaks they can't get it off and it must taste awful. It has a purple bubble gum smell which deters pecking. Be sure to wear vinyl gloves when using either product and be careful not to get any one your clothing, shoes or skin. It stains.

Wonderful Bright Purple Med Spray
We love it more than our animals. We've used it on one chicken, livestock guardian pup, and semi-domesticated/semi-feral cat who all suffered some kind of injury on our farm. We sprayed the med on their wounds, which they hated because of the smell and very, very bright purple color, but it kept their wounds from getting infected. For example, our hen was probably attacked by a fox and had a large piece of flesh hanging from her body. We thought for sure she was going to die, especially when the other chickens started pecking at her injury. We sprayed the med on her wound (which other chickens hated to go near because of the smell and color), let her rest for a week, and she was back to normal about a week or two later. It was a miracle! Warning, wear gloves when using this product. The med will stain, and you'll have bright purple color on your skin for a very long time. It does not wash off easily.

A must have for chicken owners!
Highly recommend this product! I have a flock of 14 hens and one had her head feathers pecked out down to the skull. We tried Vetericyn for a few days and isolated her from those doing the damage but saw no real difference other than the area remaining disinfected, and felt terrible having her separated from her friends! Not sure if it was coincidence, but after the first application of blue Kote we saw a fresh patch of skin growing. We have continued applying the blue Kote every couple of days to hide the new skin from our flock with great success! I purchased the pump spray bottle and have applied 4 times with no leakage, but did have my skin stained from my chicken shaking her head and getting some on me, so watch out for that. Overall an amazing product.

Good product, but stains easily
We use this to cover bare patches on our laying hens (the dark color helps minimize further "attacks" in that area). However, it stains your hands pretty intensely if you don't wear disposable gloves. Also, after one day of spraying several birds and getting a good bit of it on me, I had an allergic reaction. That is not the fault of the Blu-Kote; I have really sensitive skin. Just another reason to wear disposable gloves if you are using it and don't have great control over where it goes (like trying to use it around the heads of chickens--you have to use your hands to block their eyes, etc., so it is inevitably going to get on your skin if you don't wear gloves).

Saved my chicken!
I'm so glad we had this. Our chicken had a gruesome attack wound on her leg, and she's still up and clucking around thanks to this product. It's very, very blue, and the chicken's foot is still blue a couple weeks later! I'm so glad I have this product in my chicken care arsenal. The bottle is not very big, but there's plenty in there for much more than the couple of sprays we did on the chicken. I was recommended this product by a friend in a backyard chickens group, and I'm so glad I listened to her.

Just...wear black
It is definitely blue/purple. Use gloves. If you don't it takes about a day or two for your hands to go back to normal human color. I bought it for my chicken, and she's still purple, but I knew she would be before I bought it. It stains clothes as well, so just be aware. It seemed to work ok for the chicken, and it was easy to use, which is great when you have an unhappy farm animal.

Adhesive bright blue limited only by the user's imagination
I saw this product recommended as an effective treatment of bumblefoot in rats and guinea pigs. You may wish to treat your animal with chlorhexidine before spraying this as a "sealer." Just be aware that a single push of the pump will be enough to "paint" a large section of your pet in bright blue. The color, moreover, will most likely remain with Ratso or Speedy until he or she grows new hair to replace the old. (You may wish to try Liquid Band-Aid first.)

Blue to the rescue!
TIP FOR REMOVING FROM FINGERS! If you forget to wear gloves when applying and don't wash it off within 10 minutes like is recommended there is still hope! Use regular 3% hydrogen peroxide and half of the stain will come off your hands right away. Great to stop chickens from pecking on the tail!

Everyone says it's good stuff and maybe it is but I had to ...
This stuff is supposed to keep the chickens from pecking the blood that shows from a wound..It doesn't. I put my hen back in after doctoring her legs . The first thing she did was bend down , look at them and started to peck her own legs. The pump leaked all over my hands when trying to use it. Everyone says it's good stuff and maybe it is but I had to give up on it and move on to something else.

A Must Have Chicken First Aid Item!
I was recommended this for chicken cuts. Had to use it when we bought a 7wk old pullet EE who had been plucked on the upper wings and back and had some blood and scabbing. Poor girl! I sprayed this twice daily for about 3-4 days and it totally covered the injuries! She healed faster in my opinion and the other chicks did not notice and pluck her any longer! Must have in your first aid kit!

Make sure it’s dry
It is not lying with the name blue Kote. It is definitely blue but it DOES NOT DRY FAST. I put it on my dogs heat rash and kept her outside for 3 hours and finally let her in she laid on our rug and next thing I know I have blue ALL over. When it finally dries it works perfect and helped her area heal but you have to make sure it dries.

Awesome Porduct
This product worked amazing on my chickens. I have a chicken no joke that looked like the chicken from Moana, she got picked on that much. I put it on her backside where they were pecking the most and now I don't know which one she was because she is now back to looking like a nice healthy chicken. I highly recommend this product and I will be buying again. Thank you, this was a life saver for my chicks
