Dated
There are some useful tips but the book is rather dated and features aspects which are no longer relevant.

A book written by a dummy for dummies
I would give this book minus two stars if I could. It is the worst Dummies book I have ever read. If you are a Windows PC user and need to learn how to use the Mac operating system, do not buy this book. This book is not about that. What this book is about is trying to convince you why Macs are superior to Windows PCs. This book should be titled "Why I hate Windows PCs even though I know so little about them" or "How I rationalize spending twice the amount of money for a Mac." The author seems to think we all are using archaic Windows PC desktops with bulky monitors and old operating systems, and yet he also believes Macs last longer than Windows PCs. Go figure. At one point in the book, he says, "If your PC is so trashed that the mouse no longer works..." Apparently, he thinks that a Windows PC is trash if the mouse no longer works. Do yourself a favor. Go buy a mouse and save yourself the expense of buying a Mac.I should have known before I bought this book that it was filled with Apple hype and Windows PC hate. The author's domain for the book is ditchmypc. I have no plans to ditch my Windows PC. I need to use a Mac to write apps for the iPhone. I bought a book about switching to the Mac because I wanted to know the differences between a Mac and a Windows PC. I didn't want a book that would explain about how to use PCs in general because after all a Mac is a PC. I thought a book about switching would save me time.

Great book on switching to Mac
Written with Windows Vista and 7 in mind, and switching to Apple Mountain Lion Mac 10X versions, this is still an excellent reference regardless of what version(s) you have. Author offers excellent advice and easy to follow steps. Also includes the best write up of making up and keeping track of passwords I've ever seen. I'm sure there are others, but this is down to earth approach. For the Kindle version there is one downside for this book. Some of the Figures and Tables did not enlarge enough (at all) to read on a Kindle. Notably, Figures 10-1, 10-2, etc.did not transfer in the same relative size font as the text, but 99% of the book was readable and usable to me, so I am happy and the book was excellent.

This book saved my life!
This book saved my life! LOL! When I first switched to a Mac from a PC about 10 years ago, I was so frustrated! For three months I wanted to throw the Mac against the wall. Then I bought this book and, within days, I was using my Mac like a pro. I'm on my third Mac now so I gave the original book to my sister. Then I decided to buy it again so I'd still have a copy. It's that good!

Maybe too old
It is in simple language, but really outdated. Maybe a little too simple.

The Dummy is smart
I bought a Mac and used it for a year and then I read the book. The book put icing on the cake!I buy everything from Amazon now and use their credit card. I bought a 2nd Mac for bedroom use and purchased it from Amazon. I got it $100 cheaper than at Best Buy!Needless to say I'm sold on Apple and Amazon. This isn't a paid for commercial but I wanted to make an effort to these people that are making life easier for me. Thanks!

A Dummy for buying this Dummies book.
I finally switched to a Mac from my Windows PCs after 30 years of frustrating crashes and hang-ups won. The Mac help topics and tutorials were, at best, difficult to find. Several other Dummies books have been helpful. This book was pretty useless except for 10 pages or so. All I wanted was a brief explanation of how to change a cursor, set up bookmarks folders, have screen displays in a somewhat consistent format, set up browsing tabs. I thought that this would be addressed in this book and a couple of hours was all I needed for a few basics. I have figured out everything I wanted, but only through trial and error and various tutorial websites. The topics weren't addressed in the book.Fifteen hours searching for help vs. a maximum of two hours from the book? The book is a waste of time and money.

A book about nothing
I bought this book after buying my first Apple computer thinking from the title that it would help me 'Switch to a Mac'. Instead, the sections I read just seemed like an advert for the computer. The first 'section' I read was about Numbers software (the equivalent of Excel) and instead of a short paragraph introducing it and then instructions on how to use Numbers, all I could find was a short paragraph which actually told me nothing. For me, this book was a complete waste of time and I contacted Amazon who gave me a full refund.

MAC FOR DUMMIES
The book is great but it seems to leave out salient points - one example being that it tells you to turn on the computer but unless you know where the switch is it can leave you feeling frustrated. Still trying to master the Mac but hopefully as I progress it will get easier.

Switching to a Mac
After years of enduring a PC decided to spend hard earned money on an iMac.Thus needed an instruction book to use as totally different and as non supplied with machine. This book covers most things required you will come across in a plain and simple language albeit a lot American.

Extremely useful
Helped me out when converting from Windows PCs to Apple MAC. Even showed how easy it was to transfer everything across. Totally sold on Apple systems now.....should have done it earlier.
