Not perfect. I love it, but I'm afraid it will not last...
This is the easiest humidifier to keep clean, by far. Its whole top comes off, so you can actually reach all the corners inside the tank, and the pieces of the lid all come off. It's really brilliant. One billion points to TrueMist here. There are trade-offs, unfortunately. For one, because it's not an inverted tank, the layer of water above the ultrasonic disk is not a consistent depth. As a result, the mist output is not as consistent. It's definitely acceptable, though. In fact, I don't think it ends up making a difference for us at all.The fan is not quite strong enough to push out higher levels of mist, so it ends up falling back down instead of staying in the air. It's not a problem at lower levels of mist (approximately half or lower), but we needed to add a small fan to run it higher. I'm also not sure how much of it is related to the tank top not being sealed. Air is escaping around the edges of the lid, which is less power pushing the mist. Either way, it's not great, but we'll cope with it.My biggest worry is the gasket (?) joining the ultrasonic disk to the tank. It's shedding black particles (we've used it with nothing but water), and I'm afraid it's just going to continue to degrade until it no longer holds water. Our other humidifiers have silicone there, and I've never had a problem. Quite honestly, if it weren't for this particular problem, I'd be buying a few more of these. Instead, I'm waiting to see how this one holds up, and hoping that these are still available when and if we go for more.I really do love this thing. I'm really happy I bought it. I'm just so afraid it will fail...

Excellent --- for the money
First - if anyone knows of a humidifier which is REALLY easy to clean - please post a reply to me I've had almost all of them as I'm 62 and a lifelong asthma/allergy person. This is an evaporative humidifier (cold mist/filter,) not an ultrasonic (breaks H2O molecules apart,) and for this type of humidifier it is the easiest to clean which is a HUGE deal - esp if you have allergies - mold develops quickly in ALL cold mist humidifiers - sometimes in a couple of days - seems like if I keep this one running 24/7 there's less build-up but even in 24 hours if you empty the container to refill it and wipe it out with a paper towel there will be pink mold on it - sometimes so much that you can see it on the bottom of the tank. That said - the little nozzle on the top just sits on top of the tube and it comes apart easily into 2 pieces - just drop that in a little bucket with bleach and hot water and in 30 minutes or so it's clean. The clear plastic tube that goes down into the water is another story - you'll see in the 4th photo a small "padlock" image depicts a locked padlock (and an image of an unlocked padlock on the other side,) and note the small little plastic nub that sticks up a bit to I guess help "lock" the tube into place - this is my second machine and Ironman couldn't get that tube off the mount without breaking it. I have found that putting it into the little container (large cottage cheese works perfectly) tube side up and dousing it with Dawn and some hot water - twist it a bit to help get the soap in there and let it hang out with the other two pieces for a half hour - then with some strength it will eventually come apart. Also in pic #5 there's a curved piece of plastic about 1/2 inch from the main part of the tube that is hard to clean but still easier than anything I've ever owned. This is my second machine - the first one just quit working after about 3-4 months and they promptly sent me a new one - so that's great service - gonna order another one today in case they quit making them. On the first machine - I actually broke the little nub off a bit while trying to wrestle it apart and it still holds together fine - so I kept those parts in case I break the whole tube part trying to take it apart. Also in pic 5 you'll see a brown spot - it grew like a big pimple - I'd say it was burnt - if there was any source of heat to cause it but there isn't - and oddly, my first machine did the same thing - it looks bad but doesn't appear to affect the operation of the machine and I tried to clean it but it's not just a stain -- it's an extruded pimple. If anyone knows that it's a toxic substance please let me know!! Hope this helps !

Update: Poor/nonexistent customer service, product unreliable
Update: I purchased this is July 2019 and loved it until recently. Less than a week ago, having had it for less than 4 months, this humidifier started behaving erratically. After filling it for the night (which I had done every night since I purchased it, never over-filling, never going beyond the fill line) and turning it on, the night light function operated (even though I hadn't pressed the button for this feature; I've never used the night light feature) began operating. The lights kept cycling through the four colors. I couldn't get it to turn off. I turned off the unit and unplugged it. After waiting a while I plugged it back in and turned it on...and the night light came on again! After multiple efforts at trying to turn off the night light, I finally got it to turn off...temporarily. I was laying in bed (on the other side of the bed from where the humidifier is located) and the night light spontaneously came on again all by itself! Repeated attempts to get the night light function to stay off failed. The next morning I turned off the humidifier...and it kept running! I unplugged it, waited several minutes, plugged it in again and again it started operating without me turning it on. Everything was kablooey! Apparently something shorted out somewhere. The night light won't turn off, the humidifier runs without being turned on, and now it doesn't even put out any mist anymore. This unit is supposed to have a one year warranty. I've had it less than four months. So I decided to contact the manufacturer (Comfort Products, Inc.). There is no customer service phone number, you can only reach them by email. I sent them an email on 11/2/19, a Saturday. I got an automated reply that stated, " Our normal business hours are from M-F 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST (excluding holidays). We will respond to your inquiry on next business day." Yesterday was the "next business day". I didn't hear from them yesterday, I still haven't heard from them today.Since the True Mist Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier started malfunctioning after less then four months, and since customer service for this product appears to be nonexistent, I am revising my rating to 1 star and no longer recommend this product.I am extremely disappointed in this product and in the manufacturer's failure to live up to their warranty claims.Original review:I live in an arid climate and have dry eyes. I run a humidifier in my bedroom at all times to help alleviate my dry eyes. I have several humidifiers so I can run one while another is being cleaned. I decided to try the TrueMist Top Fill Cool Mist Humidifier. When it arrived, I was at first dismayed by its limited size. I use 1 gallon plastic containers to fill my humidifiers. This humidifier doesn't hold a full gallon of water. (My other humidifiers are 1.5-2.5 gallon sizes.) I feared I would have to return it because it wouldn't last long enough and wouldn't humidify the room well enough. Well, I have been pleasantly surprised. Yes, I wish it had a higher water capacity so I could run it longer between refills (it will last through the night if I have the dial set to about 1/3 or less than maximum). But it puts out a lot of moisture for its size. According to my humidistat, it can get the humidity level in the room to over 50%...none of my other humidifiers ever achieved that! And it seems to put out a finer mist than any of my other humidifiers, so the water vapor is able to disperse more thoroughly. haven't been using this for very long, so don't know how it will be after an extended period of time, but so far it has been running extremely quietly. The tank innards are less cluttered than any other humidifier I've ever had, so it looks like it will be easier to clean. It has a flip-up carry handle that would make it easier to carry to a sink or tub; since the top cover lifts off and you can fill it from the top, I just leave it in situ and pour water in with the aforementioned containers. I am very pleased with this humidifier thus far. If it had a bigger water tank, it would be just about perfect (for my needs, anyway). Since I haven't cleaned mine yet, I don't know firsthand how easy or difficult cleaning it is, so I've rated it only 4 stars for ease of cleaning. If it continues to perform as well as it has so far, and if it proves to be durable, I would say this is the best humidifier I've ever had. At this point in time, I recommend it highly.
