Nippon Kodo - MAINICHI-KOH Kyara Deluxe - Aloeswood

This incense is absolutely wonderful! Finally the real deal for Aloeswood, which is extremely difficult to track down.I had some doubts about ordering from Vectis Karma, having read a negative review, but in this case they sent the incense immediately. I received it within about 3 days of the order (in Switzerland). The airpack envelope for the outer packaging was perfect, and the box itself is typically Japanese in its beautiful styling and practicality.Note that although it may seem expensive, there are hundreds of sticks in this box - enough for a year if you use 1 a day during meditation like me. £20 for a year's supply is significantly less expensive than all the other boxes of 20 incense sticks that I have tried up 'til now, and it is the only one I have come across so far that smells genuinely of Aloeswood.

A very distinctive incense, lingering woody aloe aroma that resembles much more expensive luxury makes.

To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with these, particularly for the price, although I didn't dislike them (they are perfectly pleasant)- they are more than twice the price of the Nippon Kodo Mainichi Koh Sandalwood I usually buy from the same company, and I found the aroma less pleasant than my usual purchase. I was keen to try aloeswood incense which I had heard great things about, and this was one of the more affordable options, as well as coming from the same range Nippon Kodo Mainichi Koh that I am used to and love (which we also use at the Zen Centre I attend). I found this Kyara Deluxe version to be a bit two-dimensional, lacking the depth and intrigue of the Sandalwood version I'm used to. This one has a musky, woody richness, but lacks the fresh top notes of the Sandalwood and, for my taste, was less pleasuring. Furthermore, reviews on a blog that reviews Japanese incense state that this lacks the authentic aroma of aloeswood (I wouldn't know personally). What I did find, is that burning the Nippon Kodo Mainichi Koh Sandalwood and the Kyara Deluxe together at the same time produce a wonderful smell that is somewhat similar to Eiju Spicy Sandalwood Incense. The combination of the two together is lovely! But I don't think I'll purchase these again, I'll stick with the Nippon Kodo Mainichi Koh Sandalwood, Eiju Spicy Sandalwood Incense and Shoyeido Morning Zen that are my current favourites.

Beautiful smell and quality product

This is a lovely incense, my everyday favourite. A perfect balance of aloeswood and sandalwood. The scent wavers between the two and is truly sublime.

As an avid collector of Kyara, this is my go to daily box for Kyara. It doesn’t have the depth of high quality Kyara, but the milky sweetness is there and does have the lingering odor. Excellent buy and worth trying from the famous house of Nippon Kodo!

This is my favorite incense so far! Very traditional. I use it daily in my work as a counselor and during healing/sharing circles, clients love it and often comment on how the smell is very pleasant compared to other incense. The stick’s do produce a small amount of smoke, but you only smell the incense afterwards. Highly recommend this one!

Parfum subtile et agréable. Un très bon encens. Rare.

Rather stronger scent than expected. Not ideal for my small space. Too bold, spicy-woodsy overall too much scent for me! Should have read the reviews more carefully before I purchased this box. Sigh….
