What a great find.
I saw this book recommended on line by another photographer and straightaway I wanted it.I was not disappointed. Such iconic black and white images on prestige paper stock of a variety of subjects. This really is a book worth keeping and referring to.

Minutes to Midnight merges traditional documentary techniques and imagination to create a dark visual narrative portraying Australia with a mix of romanticism, nostalgia, and brooding realism.Parke had read in a local paper claiming that half of Australians felt that Australia had lost its innocence and that it had now become a different landscape all together.

Inside The Mind Of A Country
Reminiscent in structure and approach to Frank's The Americans, Parke and his partner spent 2 years on the road, photographing his native Australia. Shooting in black and white (he switched to colour at the end of this trip), Parke is a master of light and an inspiration to anyone who picks up a camera and wants to use it to communicate. The book is a slim volume, but tightly edited to create a poetic narrative that digs into the mind of Parke, the soul of Australia, and still leaves space for the viewer to contemplate the photographic beauty of this work. A must own.

An exceptional piece of work and what an experience to read. I likened my initial reaction to thumbing through this monochromatic diorama of life in and around Australia to seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. I'm still in my tender first few years of photography both as an active hobby and as something I read and study in my own time through photobooks like this one so perhaps I'm in a sort of honeymoon period but I do believe this book is a masterpiece. Can't comment too much on print and paper quality as although I dabble in shooting and developing film at home, I have never bothered to print whether with light on paper or via ink and other means but to my eye the photographs looked excellent.

In any frame of the air and meaningful beauty. One of the most popular photographers. Already in the same row with Mario Giacomelli for me.
