Digitally remastered edition of this 1984 release. Glenn’s voice has a very heavy gospel influence to it and when laid atop a soulful track it makes for a very unique sound. Glenn’s ability to adapt to whatever is put in front of him is tested on the Finesse recording as when asked to sing a song like LaLa Cope’s “Show Me” an R&B song that not too many vocalists could deliver, he excels. His vocals bridge the (small) gap between R&B and Gospel once again showing off his almost endless range. The emotions on this song are sincere and the vocals are not over produced. Synth bass, acoustic piano, synth bells, expertly crafted background vocals and a heavily plucked Guitar made this sound Unique. Producers Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi are the Godfathers of this sound. They gave way to upcoming producers such as Kashif, The System (Mic Murphy in particular- having worked with Jacques Fred Petrus was the connecting bridge), Jam & Lewis, Wayne Brathwaite, Barry Eastmond and Producer & Guitarist Steve Horton. The last 3 named play a pivotal role on this recording. Never before Expanded on CD. Remastered from the original studio master tapes. Limited Edition Press. Collectable Item Includes 3 Bonus Tracks.

I really like this CD, and I will be ordering more music in the near future!
The only thing that I disliked about the CD, was that I wished that it had a couple more of his popular songs on it, instead of the Finesse remix and I AM Somebody instrumental.

Hell of a voice!
i am a huge Glenn Jones fan, even when he was starting out with Norman Conners back in the day. this brother is so underrated! Finesse is the main song i wanted in CD form. i have a cassette tape with this song but i needed to have a CD version. show me will always get the bedroom sizzling!

Glenn Jones "Finess"
Dont fall for the advertisment, like I did that marketed this as new music! This is one of Glenn's earlier 1980's....save your money and buy it used!!!

Its about time that Glenn Jones' debut full length album was finally released on its own cd because it displays some of the best ballads and funk/dance songs of 1984. It was also one of the few R&B albums at the time that represented both a sophisticated smooth NY style of light funk and melodic ballads (simular to Kashif's sound) and West Coast dance grooves that were fit for LA dance clubs and many "lowriders" (like Leon Sylvers' sound). This album helped him make his mark as an R&B crooner with the smooth styling of the top 5 R&B hit, "Show Me" (composed and produced by La La Cope, an associate of Hush Productions which was headlined Kashif and Paul Laurence Jones who were resdponsible for Eastcoast hits by Lillo Thomas, Melba Moore, Kenny G, and Freddie Jackson). The single's success earned him several TV appearances, including American Bandstand, of which by that time were recruiting more up and coming black artists than they were ten years prior. "Everlasting Love" was another La La composed song, but this time was a midtempo groove (only peaked at #60 on the R&B charts).Although Glenn was fit more for a smooth crooner; some of his best were the songs that were produced by Leon Sylvers. Leon's outstanding work with artists from the SOLAR label and many other artists made him a much in demand producer throughout the early 1980s, but by 1984, the demand was shifting in the favor of younger producers who can develop a more mainstream sound and Leon was still focused a little more on traditional funk and dance. Glenn's vocals were suited for more traditional, yet synthesized funk so he scored with the jammin' title cut and the slightly slowed down driven slammer, "Meet Me Halfway There." "It Hurts Too Much" and the title cut are some of my favorite jams especically the intro on the title cut and the echoing synth solo that blended right into the third verse (can't forget about the ending). Along with Evelyn King and the Tavares, I think Leon did his best with Glenn Jones when it came to working with a non-SOLAR artist. Leon had delivered the enduring ballad, "Bring Back Your Love" which was a top 20 R&B hit and was also known for the music video that was played to death on BET in early 1985. "Show Me" is one superior ballad that could match or surpass Freddie Jackson's "Rock Me Tonight," but I felt that it was a bit overated due to the strong populularity of the Kashif enspiring melodic sound that required very little to no instruments. "Bring Back Your Love" proves that Leon has come a long way from "This Is For The Lover In You" and "Some Where Theres A Love" by updating his ballad oriented sound with little live instruments involved and not having the song sound too choppy with a wide range of synthetic instruments. The ballad did'nt sound much like other artists under his direction and it could've been a crossover hit. I also found the lyrics alot more enduring and heartfilling being that Glenn was willing to take the woman back because he has so much faith in her and understood that everyone makes mistakes. "Bring Back Your Love" should be used as a blueprint for artists today like Trey Songz. I can definitely see him remaking this classic (one of the only few current R&B artists who should). Thats why I prefer "Bring Back Your Love" over "Show Me" and his later hit ballads "It Only Just Begun" and "Here I Go Again."I'm glad that the expanded edition includes the extended remix to the title cut and the hit song from his 1983 EP release, "I Am Somebody" Although this album is mainly filled with dance/funk grooves rather than ballads, Finesse turns out to be my favorite Glenn Jones album. His future albums will be more ballad oriented being that Finesse was a great start up lp that entered the charts and its songs rocked radio stations nationwide.

One of Glenn Jones’ Best Works!
One of understated artist Glenn Jones’ finest works. Liner notes by Will Downing!! It doesn’t get better than that! Beware though, both of my cd’s had a lengthy dropout on song one.

Great Album
I first bought this album for a work colleague who used to dj in the 80's.He assured me it was a great album as he used to play "show me" regularly. Having heard the album I bought another for myself. It has bonus tracks "I am sombody" as well as "Finesse" dance mix. If you like Marvin Gaye, Luther vandross and george benson, you will love this.
