Drill works great and drill the depth of the fitting. When using on the tightening end be sure to turn the nut down so 8 or more threads show. this allows room for the fitting to seat. This is assuming you use the smaller fitting on a 4x4.

Install tip. Put these on the wire before putting them in the hole. They fit the wire perfectly so it is difficult to get the wire thru once these are in the wood if you haven't drilled your hole perfectly straight which is difficult in 6x6.
