Dim?
In terms of brightness, they are excellent in easily matching a 50/60w 'normal' bulb whilst saving buckets of energy, although I don't like the fact that LED's are so eye scorchingly bright that I fear that my baby's eyes might be damaged by staring at them.I can't say how long they last, but I shall report back when the first one blows. My major caveat is that they only dim to about 80%, which is not 'dim' to me, but 'slightly less bright!' so a romantic dining-room-setting is most definitely out of the question. This leads to the obvious question of 'where does one need a downlighter which dims to a slightly less bright degree?' No, I can't think of one either...So, for the price...buy something else.

Good replacement option with some caveats
Appears brighter to look at directly than 50W GU10 halogen but wider 120-degree angle means the space directly beneath the fitting is not so brightly lit. I've only changed one of the five lamps I have in the kitchen so far, just as a comparative test, but I think I will go ahead and replace the remaining lamps with these too. I hadn't appreciated how uneven the halogen lighting was until I fitted this replacement. While there are places in the kitchen which are undoubtedly very brightly lit, there are also areas that are darker than directly beneath this LED. I'm expecting that when I've changed all the fixtures to LED the lighting will be much more even. Colour temperature is a little cooler than the existing halogens but still pleasingly warm, not the harsh blue/white I've seen so often elsewhere.

Stays on all the time.. ?
Im a first time buyer of LED GU10s but unfortunately its not been a good introduction.I bought one of these to replace the normal GU10 over my daughters bed, but when I switched them the LED stays on all the time (very faint, but on none the less, and definitely too bright to sleep under).. Its either a faulty bulb or a faulty light, but considering Its been in use for a few years with a normal GU10 with no problems I dont know..Putting the above aside, the bulb was very bright when turned fully on, but the dimmer doesnt dim enough, it seems to dim from 100% down to 80%, then down to 1% (when switched off). Its been sent back for a refund.

Not as bright or warm as Halogen it replaced
I wanted to replace a number of Halogen spots in my office to reduce power consumption so I tried one of these. They aren't as bright as a 50W Halogen bulbs and the light is whiter and colder too, they do dim but not down linearly to off (not a problem for me).So OK but I will be looking elsewhere for a warmer alternative. They also have a wider spread of light because the LEDs are right at the surface of the lamp rather than the incandescent bulb which is higher in the lamp 'cone'.

LED lights suck!
LED lights generally give a horrible 'false' light that is not comfortable to work or sit in. The only way round it is to combine LED's with halogen bulbs to create a warmer light. Some people don't seem to be that sensitive to it whilst other just can't stand it. At work they replaced all the halogen bulbs with LEDS and many people complained about the lighting being too dull. I find the light they produce very anaemic. However as far as LED bulbs go these are not bad hence the 3 stars.

Works well, good light
I have eight of these in the kitchen, controlled by a Zano dimmer switch. It is too early for me to comment on longevity but they work very well and give a good even light, much more spread out than the 50W ones they replaced. The light does seem cooler in tone, even though the lamps I have are marked as warm. With the Zano dimmer, when first switched on, there is one intermediate brightness position at which flicker is evident but a very slight turn of the switch to dimmer or brighter stops it. After a few minutes of operation, no flicker is evident at any setting.Recomended, but worth checking the price from time to time as the discount does vary - mine were £7.99 each.

Slightly different dimensions
I have brought these before and they fit fine into the holders I have but these ones, although they look the same and are the same height and width, they are slightly different in that the gradient from the widest part to the narrow part of the width is less acute than before ... meaning that they don't fit my holder ... which I can only assume are box standard down-light holders.I will not send back but I will have to customise my down-light holders to allow for the 'fat-ness' of the new bulb :(

4 out of 5 Blown
Firstly, they don't dim like a halogen, that is they don't actually go that dim so no good for watching films etc - I think this is true of all LED lamps. 4 out of 5 ordered blew within a day if not immediately, all replaced/refunded without any problems. The ones that are working are pretty good and with the 3 year warranty the apparent unreliability isn't a issue.
