I am so disappointed in this purchase - it’s not a “mat” - it is literally a plastic sheet with printing the disposable kind you get at Home Depot for covering your floors when you paint the house. My plastic shower curtain is thicker and more durable than this. If you put this over a carpet - the weight of an easel or chair could put a hole in it.I am not a person who gets crazy over “smells” but there is an amazingly strong headache inducing chemical plastic smell too. I just received this so maybe it’s something that disappears in a few days but I almost don’t want to let my child near it.

Having a splat mat in your house when you have a toddler can be extremely handy. That is idea behind why I got this mat and I have used placed it underneath my son's high chair so that he can explore different food on his own while saving me time by not having to clean up the entire floor each day. This mat works at the basic level: It does catch food droppings while your child learns to eat. I also like the vibrant colors and patterns on it. However, 2 of the big disappointments for me were: 1) how thin these were and 2) it had a very strong chemical smell that is almost impossible to miss.

We returned this mat as it was poorly made and was not worth the price-point. We were extremely disappointed when it arrived. The graphics are blurred and just was overall of poor quality. We ended up returning this and just purchasing a waterproof beach tarp - it works well for us since it covered a large surface area and is dual purpose.
