Corrosion Of Conformity - Deliverance
Corrosion Of Conformity's fourth full-length studio album, and first both on a bigger record label and with guitarist Pepper Keenan on vocals, is by all accounts a classic album, containing some of the band's biggest songs and making up a large part of their live set even to this day.Deliverance saw the band move far away from their hardcore punk and cross over Thrash roots, and move into a territory of big, wide, Sabbath inspired songs, Southern leanings and a retro-feel that was paradoxically the modern thing at the time, when both alternative metal and stoner rock were starting to pick up followings. There is some variety to be found here too, such as in the brief acoustic number `Without Wings,' and the slide guitar filled, haunting southern ballad `Shelter,' both of which help elevate the album above the crowd and display the bands musicality in addition to the raw rock energy that comes across on the rest of the tracks.Pepper Keenan's vocals are excellent here, at times evoking a mixture of Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie Von Zant and James Hetfield. The guitar and bass work is top notch as always, with big riffs being par for the course as well as the excellent drums from Reed Mullin that are tight, nuanced and 70s influenced.Highlights include `Broken Man' as well as the big singles `Albatross' and `Clean My Wounds,' and lastly the subtly menacing album closer `Pearls Before Swine,' which perfectly treads the line between slow, brooding, spacey stoner rock and a big loud groove metal track.Overall; Deliverance features that powerful, indefinable `classic album' x-factor in spades. Any serious fan of the band will no doubt be familiar with the record and it is a perfect starting point for any potential new fans.

Southern Fried Metal At Its Best
"Deliverance" sees COC leaving their old thrash crossover style completely behind. Pepper Keenan ( of Down) entered the band and really took control of this album, laying down his superb vocals and song writing ability. The sound changed to more southern styled metal, akin to a lighter Pantera with more melodic vocals and the odd thundering Sabbath inspired riff. While this didn't go down with the hardcore fans of the band's old thrash style, it drew in a wider metal and grunge fan base. There is a host of great rocking tracks, all enveloping that southern swagger and a great bent for melody. My favourites include the grooving opener "Heaven Is Not Overflowing", the slow-burner "Albatross", "Clean My Wounds" which is one of the band's most catchy and well known songs. There's the brooding doom of "Broken Man", the fun groove of the title track and my personal favourite "Seven Days" which showcases the most powerful and booming chorus the band has ever put out. I'm also a big fan of the slower songs, especially the closer "Pearls Before Swine" which is really quite menacing and ends the album on a poignant and intense note."Deliverance" is a consistently great southern rock/metal album with a host of melody and some great heavy riffs. Probably my favourite release from COC, and a great place to start for newcomers.

Sitting out on a porch amongst a swampy landscape
Possibly the most laid back heavy album ever, this album seeps guitars that drift from solid metal to blues to an almost latino style of riffs. The vocal harmonies are haunting, bringing out the sort of album that I'd catagorise as a thinking mans rock. Listening to the album, you can imagine sitting out on a porch amongst a swampy landscape, blasting out your blues rock with not a care in the world. It's one of those albums that demand a second listen. Definetly an album you'll find yourself returning to time and time again as the years pass by.

Dark, heavy, bluesy, southern stoner rock.
I bought this album after seeing the band on TV playing 'Albatross' and came completely hooked. Dark, heavy, bluesy, southern stoner rock is how it should described. Great album from a great band.

Storia
In the arms of god.Da acquistare senza starci tanto a pensare. Un must.

Album Corrosion of Conformity

One of the best albums EVER
One of the best albums EVER! COC were slowly headed in this direction with the line-up changes before and, after BLIND. We saw a small glimpse into this "side" of their sound on "Vote With A Bullet" and, the addition of Pepper Keenan (who sang vocals on said tune). A fine mix of Sabbath Worship and, Southern Swagger. Sadly, COC lost a lot of their original "hardcore" fans because of this album.....well, too bad for those supposed "fans". I'll always LOVE all phases and, line-ups of COC but, the "Deliverance Line-Up" is the REAL DEAL. Of course, this is just my opinion....if you Love Sabbath, Love Southern Rock and, Love Metal. This is one helluva great album!

Very unique band
How did I miss this back in the 90's??!! Oh yeah, I was into classic rock and surely none of this "new" music is any good. Fast forward 25 years or so and realize the same couple o' hundred classic rock songs the local station spins are really wearing thin.Don't laugh, the station in your town does the same thing. Well COC really kicks on this release. They are a great mix of punk, thrash, and metal with a dose southern and can you imagine, 'classic rock' too. I do remember Albatross getting some airplay back in the day, but I really like the whole record. Do yourself a favor and revisit this band-worth every penny!

An all time great album
This was the album where Pepper Keenan officially took over the songwriting after Mike went back to college and quit the band. Therefore, this is also the album where their style shifted dramatically from more punk/hardcore sound to heavily Sabbath influenced riffing. In fact, when i lived in New Orleans, and before he joined COC, Pepper was in a Sabbath tribute band called "Electric Funeral". They played at Checkpoint Charlie's frequently.Anyway, Pepper writing the music/songs marked the point where COC made a huge leap in quality. This album is kind of COC's trademark album. A definite moment of greatness that would be followed up by Wiseblood. Of course, these days, Pepper has moved on to partner up with Phil Anselmo on more projects, including a revamped Down (which he was actually always part of), but this album will always remain a classic benchmark effort, and will always have a place in my collection, and will always be often played on my stereo.

Grunge Forgotten Gem
This core grunge with a hairy guitars coming at with les paul's crunch and fury. the album is very good as a whole, there are a couple of songs that take you back to the 90's. I will always be a fan of songs like Albatross and Clean my Wounds, I am a fam of this album and all of its content.

Hits the sweet spot between rock and metal
Memorable, catchy songs. Raw, killer guitar tones and riffs. Great vocals. It all adds up to the best hard rock/metal album since Highway to Hell. They could have left off a few filler tunes, but that’s a minor criticism. Overall a solid, kick-ass album that well worth your time and money.
