I didn't even know such a thing existed until our guide in the Biebrza marshes in Poland used one whilst we were out looking for birds. You need to have a book that is compatible with the pen. By holding the tip of the device against a symbol in the book (in my case a book of birds), you then hear the bird song of that bird. Such a great idea. Just a pity it isn't available to use with an English book. Only for use with German books, but still bought the book as I can use it alongside an English book of birds and compare pictures and Latin names. The book I bought was Das Fleigt Denn Da" by Kosmos publisher.
