The Snuffle Rug is a handmade mat, made out of a rubber base, tied with multi-colour fleece strips. The dog owner then sprinkles kibble or other smaller treats, and the dog then has to root around in the fabric to snuffle out his food. These mats are a great way to feed your dog the dried food part of his meals, as it stops him from wolfing it down in seconds, which as we all know isn't good for our furry friends. In addition to slowing down eating, just the act of sniffing and snuffling around actually calms and soothes your dog. When our beagle has a mental moment (often called FRAP or the zoomies) we just sprinkle dried Parmesan into our mat, to give him something to sniff out, engage his brain and calm down. He gets a very small amount of food for a lot of calming work. These mats are approx 30cm and 30cm, so are suitable for a small area such as in your office, if you're lucky enough to work in a dog-friendly office.
