Laguna Multi Hose Adapter, 1/4 to 1-Inch

I should have read the size. 1/2 inch is the max. Okay for small tubing but not regular pond pipe. My mistake.

This adapter is not all that is needed to couple two different sized tubing together, but its a start. We have a Beckett pump for our small pond. The inside diameter of the tubing that goes with this pump is 1/2". After a few months, I wanted to add on a UV clarifier. In retrospect, I wish I'd just gone with a pump that had a UV light as part of the setup, but, I didn't. (Nice to know though, if you're in the decision making stage. )After a LOT of dithering, I settled on the TetraPond GreenFree UV Clarifier. (5 Volt light, Designed for ponds up to 660-gallon, includes fittings for tubing 3/4-inch, 1-inch, and 1-1/4-inch)I just assumed (don't assume!) that I could easily find a tubing adapter by either TetraPond or by Beckett. No, I spoke with customer service for these companies, and they do not have what I needed to connect my 1/2" tubing from the pump to the UV clarifier that has a minimum size of 3/4" and goes up to 1-1/4".This Laguna Multi Hose adapter is the ONLY thing that I could locate to attempt to get the UV clarifier hooked up to my pump. In and of itself, it was not enough though. Yes, I could connect tubing, but no, absolutely not a watertight or even secure connection.On the end connecting it to the UV light, it was hard plastic fitting into hard plastic, and no way just adding a clamp to it would make any difference, because a clamp isn't going to have any effect on rigid plastic fittings. On the smaller end, a clamp is enough to attach the adapter securely to the water pump tubing, but, you still have to have a clamp. Just sliding the tubing onto it isn't enough to keep it in place.I finally went to the local ACE hardware store, and the guy there was really helpful. He cut two pieces of rubber hose (like 4 linear inches each) that fit the 1" connector part of the UV Clarifier, A clamp went there, onto that hose, to hold it securely in place onto the UV Clarifier valve. Then, this Laguna Multi Hose adapter went into the other end of the hardware store hose, and a clamp goes onto that end. After that, the tubing from the pond pump goes into the other end of the adapter, and another clamp.So, in total, if you're connecting something similar to what I was doing, there is an intake and output valve. Therefore that makes two adapters needed. If you're connecting this adapter to something that is made of hard plastic (this adapter is also hard plastic) then you will need two short lengths of flexible tubing so that a clamp will be effective, and then you will need three clamps per section you are coupling together.For my project, I needed to have tubing from my pump run to the UV light, and from the UV light back into the pond (waterfall) I bought a total of two Laguna Multi Hose Adapters, 6 hose clamps (in two different sizes) and two short lengths of rubber hose. And, it works perfectly, tubing coming from pond pump is clamped onto adapter, adapter is clamped into larger diameter short section of rubber hose, and that rubber hose is clamped onto the UV Clarifier. Then, out the output side of the clarifier, its the rubber hose clamped onto it, then the Laguna adapter clamped intothe rubber hose, and then the tubing from my pond clamped onto the adapter.If you are connecting two pieces of flexible tubing that are of different sizes, you would only need two clamps. (and one adapter) The need for the extra rubber hose was because there was no way to fit this adapter securely into a rigid plastic receptacle, it is not watertight, there are no rubber gaskets included, and it does not snap or screw into place. ]Once you determine where your connection will take place on the length of this adapter, you can cut part of the smaller end off of it so that it doesn't restrict water flow. It was not difficult to cut with garden pruning shears. I hope this helps.

Adapter is easy to use.

It was easy to get the perfect size and make it fit into any connection. So glad I bought this.

A few important things you should know before buying this product:First, the tubing fits ONLY four specific measurement: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1 inch tubing. I assumed that it was graduated in such a way that if I had any hose measurement between 1/4 and 1 inch, it would fit. However, my 3/8 tubing did not fit on this, as the tubing was too large for the 1/4 section of this adapter and too small for the 1/2 inch section. I wish this had been specified in the description, because "1/4 to 1-inch" implies that it should fit everything in between.Additionally, the this does not seem like it is able to produce a watertight seal. The ribbing on the adapter so shallow that the hose doesn't seem to be able to grip to the adapter completely. I was able to find some smaller tubing to fit this but during the very first night of use, the adapter came loose and over a quarter of the water in my pond was pumped out on to my lawn.This product may be useful if you have a low pump flow and tubing that fits the four specific measurements for which this adapter is functional. For me, though, this was a pretty epic fail.

I had my doubts, but it has worked perfectly to attached two hoses of different sizes without any leaks. You do need to cut each end to appropriate diameter. I used a utility knife then a small hack saw to cut to size.

Some of the reviews here made me hesitate on buying this product, so I am compelled to add mine. I inherited a small rock garden/pond thingie that had been neglected for a while. I got a frog spitter to add to the pump, but its hose was much narrower than what I had at the pump. This coupler was perfect! Pushed it in as far as I could on the small tube and then did the same for the larger tube. I then decided to trim a little bit off the end going in to the larger tube, which was easy to do. If you need to connect two tubes of different sizes, this is the doo-dad you need.

Think this item is better suited to lower pressure. I needed to do a more permanent join of 2 different sized hoses from mains tap and despite using 'o' clamps one end came off within hours.
