the Methadones possess the punk rock "charge" they write simple songs .lyrically and structure and they do it very very well ,listening to this self titled album they have almost parodied the Rivendales and added an extra layer of their own .In short its got energy, kick, and melody ,makes me wanna hop around as Dee Dee once said.Maximus Metalicus.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
The Methadones formed in 1993 went through a number of line-up changes, and stops and starts before finally calling it a day in 2010. Originally formed by guitarist/vocalist Dan Vapid who soon left to focus on his main band, the well known chop/change/factious outfit, Screeching Weasels, and true to form a falling out with this group led to his rejoining The Methadones in 1999 and you've guessed it left again leaving the ex-Riverdales bassist, vocalist and songwriter Dan Schafer to put together a new line-up with Mike Byrne, guitar and Mike Sourcy, drums. The various changes and starts at last were over and there was continuity for a number of years which maybe was contributory to establishing a punk rock band with a lot of class, pumping power-driven rhythms, some excellent guitar and vocalisations, but all within the context of dishing-up quality, foot-tapping melodic punk music. Had the band had more marketing and image projection advice and support they could have stripped themselves of the rather limiting 'punk' image and moved into the much larger mainstream market. And they just got better and better. The simply titled 'Methadones' Album released shortly after they announced the final break-up is evidence of this. All of it's 16 tracks are beauties and archetypical of all that is so refreshing and mesmerically enjoyable with melodic punk rock. It is arguably the best punk collection since the aforementioned Screeching Weasels released "My Brain Hurts" back in the 1990's. All bar one song ("Self Destruct") were composed and written by Dan Schafer. The strength of this album is the clever integration of strident rhythms, excellent instrumental work, really good harmonising, and many memorable riffs, hooks and anthemic qualities. Rising out of this tremendous bunch of tracks are "Undecided", "April Rain", "On The Clock", "Easter Island", "Garry Glitter", and the Best-Of-The-Best "Exit 17", which showcases The Methadones sublime mastery of this much underrated genre of popular music. What a crying shame that they are no more but at least they have left a magnificent last bequest which can be savoured for many years to come.
