The Funny Thing Is...

I bought this book the first time a few decades ago and loaned it out so many times I forgot who had it last so I had to buy it again! Totally worth it still makes me laugh out loud! In fact my husband banned me from reading it in bed because I kept him awake with my laughing outbursts!

I thought her book was charming she made me laugh in almost every chapter I thought it was a good read

I purchased this book to laugh and have fun. It turned out exactly as I wanted to be. I wanted someone talk about the funny things about life and us.Ellen talks about her daily life and behaviours which are similar to everybody's. She tells about the funny things that we do in life but the funny thing is that we are not aware how funny our behaviours are. She also talks about the funny parts of some disiplines, some ways of living, some standings towards life. If we watch ourselves from above, I am sure we would laugh a lot... How we make a decision and forget it the next minute... how we live angry at everything and everybody even to our selves and how we fight 24 x 7. This book remembered me to laugh to myself and change some of my behavior and beliefs.Thanks Ellen!Ipek

The first time I saw Ellen, (I was looking for some English speech, because I am Russian and I needed a good speaking... It was maybe a year ago), was on her show. I Over 2013 - 2014 year I have been watching her TheEllenShow, hanging on her every monologs, laughing alone in my living room just seeing her face and of course dancing. From then on, she is the only actress-commedianne, who can make me laugh. Her book,"The Funny Thing Is..." became for me the grammar book and the dictionary of the English language that makes me happy. Essentially this book is one long author's sketch monologue. Very fun and extraordinary. Sparkling jokes are not without common sense. In addition to the remarkable book, I received a huge motivation for learning.

WOW! I did not know what to expect from this book when I bought in on AMAZON. I didn't know if it would be political or preachy. But I love Ellen Degeneres so I bought it. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when this book reminded me of the late, great Erma Bombeck!By all appearances, Ellen Degeneres is ready to accept the crown for the new queen of written comedy. This fun book reminded me so much of Erma Bombeck... funny, simple circumstances that we can all relate to. Expertly written, THE FUNNY THING IS... had me laughing from cover to cover.5 stars for sure... my recommendation? BUY IT NOW! You rock, Ellen!

This book is very entertaining and as you read it, you can almost hear Ellen's voice in your head. A lot of the material seems to be just like her act, which is a good thing. The only downside is that being sort of like her act makes it a fun read, but not one with any real story or time line.

I loved this. Ellen is an awesome storyteller with funny and witty stories. You can picture Ellen delivering all of these stories in her monlogue in her show. I found myself laughing inside. Not a bad book for 1.99. Get this and feel good.

I bought this book because I love and admire Ellen, but once I got into it, I found I had to admit it was a little boring. Ellen's gift is spontaneous one-liners delivered in short segments with audience participation, and her jokes seem to lose some vital element when written down. The humor seems forced and stiff. I'm happy I helped Ellen a little by buying her book, though!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ellen's book and laughed a lot while reading her observations about parking, fitness lessons and food! I only wished the book was longer and it included more entries from her personal relationships with Anne Heche and Portia de Rossi, as well as her experience as a worldwide known talk show host (a tv personality). It would have been thrilling to read about her efforts to help the underprivileged and the misunderstood, as well as the people who have found a way 'from rags to riches' and who are living the life of their dreams, doing whatever their mission in life may be.

I opened this book and the first page made me laugh out loud and I could not stop till I finished the book. it is extremely funny. I love her funny spin on eveyday embarrasing moments from what clothes your wearing to not listening in a conversation and being asked a question. She is a very funny lady in everything she does from her sitcom days to the ellen degeneres show she does today. She never fails to make me laugh and this book certianly did and you get a whole chapter absoluty free so I would really recommend you buy this book as I am sure it will make you laugh like I did.

This book is fantastic. I loved Ellen's first book and I loved this one too. Already bought her 3rd one and can't wait to read it.It's sooo funny. Ellen talks utter nonsense throughout most of the book, but so many times I found myself thinking 'yeah, I do/think that too'I read half of it to my mum cos everytime I laughed she wanted to know what was so funny.Totally laugh out loud at this fabulous book. Love you Ellen... keep writing :) x x x

Guess I'm late on this one too. But I'm glad I got there eventually. First book was hilarious so I was concerned how Ellen could top it. Well she did and boy! did I laugh. If you want an all round funny adventure then this is for you. If you want an insight into what people do and why this is for you. It's funny and insane and brilliantly written.

I really love Ellen DeGeneres and think she is absolutely hilarious on her talk show, as such, I purchased this book anticipating that I would spend the whole time laughing out loud....not so. The book is very random, doesn't seem to follow any structure and rambles on and on with attempts to shoe horn in some jokes every few lines.I was really looking forward to reading this book and if it was anyone else who had written it, I probably would have put it down and not bothered finishing it...as it was Ellen's book and I genuinely think she is great, I kept giving it chances to pick up and entertain me but I must admit I was delighted to get to the final page :(Wouldn't recommend this book to anyone which I am really disappointed to say as I had really high hopes for it.
