IT WORKS! Make sure to read and follow the instructions!
BEST entertainment for my hubby and me after losing 2 other bird feeders and pounds and pounds of bird feed. It's now a little over a week (very simple installation on our shepherd's hook) since we put it in our back yard. The birds are happy because they have seed throughout the day. I just watched another squirrel attempt to get around it and get zapped. For those who are concerned about hurting these ("adorable creatures" -Pffft! wait till they destroy YOUR $40-50 feeders) they were not harmed... They keep coming back to try and figure out how to outsmart it. There are currently 4 of them out there right now. It's 9 am as I write this. WHY didn't I find this product two bird feeders ago??? I will let the little bastids dig little "adorable" holes throughout my backyard and in the planters (for now), but the bird feeders are now for the birds! THANK YOU!

This product worked well for about a year. In ...
This product worked well for about a year. In that time frame I believe that I changed the battery 3 times. Just recently I noticed squirrels back on the feeder. I figured that the battery needed changing which it did. Put a new battery in and the next day a squirrel was back on the feeder. Went out and tested it by giving it a quick grip and nothing. Took it down, brought it inside and tested it again. This time I got zapped which my daughter thought was hysterical. Then tested again and nothing. A third time nothing. Again, and again nothing. Tried several more times and no results. Put it back up on the feeder anyway and the squirrels were all over it this morning. 3 stars because although it did work consistently at one point it doesn't anymore.

Eats batteries but works
Only two regrets: It eat batteries (about one per month). And I never actually got to see a squirrel get zapped. But the batteries are cheaper than the seed. And it works. You almost have to feel sorry for the squirrels. Now, they go right to the bottom of the pole, crouch with tails twitching ... but then there is a pause ... and then they just kind of walk away.Obviously, something very unpleasant happened, and they don't want it to happen again.

Does the job but only for short time and eats batteries.
Does the job but only for a short time and eats batteries. Purchased it late July 23, 2020 and the unit is dead January 26, 2021. Other reviews list similar problems i.e. 9volt batteries in the winter needs replacement every 15 days or less. I could live with that since the device deters the squirrels so well, but when it flat out died about the time of the 6 month warranty period made me write this. This is a sole source product that does work but for the price it should last longer than the 6 month warranty period. I have another unit and hope it will last longer.

Tough Bird Defender is simple and works better than any other product we have tried!
Well worth purchasing—it works! However, part of its success is because we have removed overhead tree branches and nearby planters, shrubs, etc., and we have a baffle on the feeder pole, as well. Plus, we have a squirrel-proof feeder. However, until we installed the Tough Bird Defender, the squirrels were able to consistently get past these other deterrents, and climb onto the feeder—But, now the squirrels jump off the pole every time, as soon as they touch the Tough Bird device, without ever reaching the feeder! I’m so glad we bought it, because it’s effective!

Keeps racoons from draining our feeders nightly
For years have searched for an alternative way to stop the racoons from draining our feeders rather than bringing them inside nightly. Found this on another webiste and purchased using amazon prime. We have been using this for about 4 months and have replaced the battery once or twice but still cheaper than replacing the birdseed. It is mounted on a deck pole feeder and it works great and is not very visible!

Worked for just 18 months
Watching squirrels leap off my feeder in shock (literally) was great. But it eats batteries almost as fast as squirrels eat birdseed. And 18 months after purchase, it has stopped working completely.

Pretty pricey for something that doesn't last long
While it worked it worked well. Took a video of a squirrel getting zapped and jumping off the feeder pole. Unfortunately after a few months they kept going off and I had to go outside to turn it back on. Finally it quit working all together. Lasted less than a year. Pretty pricey for something that doesn't last long.
