Oscar Wilde and Graphic Novel - What's not to like?
Fabulous rendition of an Oscar Wilde short. If you're new to Wilde or to graphic novels this is a great introduction. An entertaining and beautifully drawn version of a clash of societies. Love it!

Some reviews
Some reviews I've noticed for this book:"Some classics are so much easier to read in graphic novel format..."- Goodreads"Oscar Wilde's clever parody provides an entertaining twist on the traditional gothic horror story. A gauche, materialistic American family moves into the English mansion of Canterville Chase, much to the annoyance of the resident ghost. Wilde creates an unforgettable gallery of characters, from Hiram B. Otis and his children to Lord Canterville and the chain-clanking ghost Sir Simon. This brilliant and often overlooked story is a clever commentary on how Wilde saw "free" America challenging "traditional" England -- all in the guise of a charming fireside tale. This faithful graphic novel adaptation is ideal for students and any readers who want to understand and appreciate the original story. Running 130 pages and featuring stunning artwork, the book includes an illustrated character list (like a dramatis personae) and fascinating support material that details the life and work of Wilde."- Open book society

Oscar Wilde fans - be sure you buy the "original text" version!
This comic is based on the 1887 short story by Oscar Wilde. Don't let the age of the story scare you away; it's just as funny now as it was back then! In his characteristic fashion Wilde uses dry humor to poke fun at the attitudes and conventions of the upper class. It's also a parody of Gothic novels. An American family buys an old English country house, Canterville Chase. The owners are happy to unload it as the evil ghost of their ancestor haunts the place and has caused much misery and death over the generations. The American's are unphased and go about life as usual, with hilarious results. The artwork is good, but not as detailed or expressive as I'd like. Amusingly to me, the exterior of Canterville Chase as drawn is actually the English Highclere Castle, which doubles as Downton Abbey Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey Season 1 (Original UK Edition) in the TV show. Highclere Castle has been used many times for filming movies. The text is directly adapted from Wilde's short story. The publisher, Classical Comics, offers its titles in several formats. This is from their site:"We publish multiple versions for each of our titles. Simply choose which text version is right for you. Shakespeare titles are available in Original Text, Plain Text and Quick Text. Classic literature titles are available in Original Text and Quick Text."I don't think it's necessary to 'dumb down' Wilde's text. And purist readers like me prefer to read the real thing and not an adaptation. The Quick Text version The Canterville Ghost The Graphic Novel: Quick Text (American English) may be better for very young readers, however. The story content will certainly not scare children.
