Great idea but it just doesn't work
This is such a cool concept but it has too many issues.Pros:* Very cool green glow when you lift the cover. I feel like I'm boarding a space ship when unlocking my door.* It looks nice. Not cheaply made at all.* Tech support responds very quickly to inquiries.Cons:* A difficult installation was made more confusing because the lock came with directions for a different model. I emailed tech support (tried calling but it was not 9-5 M-F so they were closed) and they emailed me back the instructions for my model. They emailed me back within 20 minutes.* Installation is incredibly sensitive. If the alignment of the many parts are off by 1mm the lock will not function correctly. I spent a lot of time with a file getting everything just right, and then it worked. With every other lock I've installed, if you fit everything together, it works. With this one, you have to be really careful not just to fit everything together but how you fit everything together. You can't have too much tension at any point, or the bolt won't retract, or the security alarm will go off, etc. This could have been avoided by having parts that need to fit precisely be one piece, or snap together.* Adding users is a very complicated process. This lock was clearly built by engineers for engineers. Basically you have to input a user ID using a binary code by pressing "add" for 1 and "del" for 0. So user 5 is add-del-add (101 = 5 in binary). You also have to get the right magic of opening/closing the cover, pressing add additional times, and pressing the open/close button.* When the lock rejects anything (adding a user, unlocking), it beeps 8 times very loudly. Four beeps, then a pause, then four more beeps. It is an ear splitting beep. Why does it have to be 8 times?! Why not just 2? Or even better, a light to indicate. If you plan on coming home late at night, expect to wake up anyone inside sleeping. You can also hear the beeping all the way down the street.* The scanner is also very sensitive. It worked pretty well for me at first, but when it got colder it only worked 1 out of 3 times. This was because my hands became dry due to the weather. If you have hands that get dry due to weather, carry moisturizer if you want this to work. And always carry the physical key.* The motor is too weak for this lock. It is not strong enough to open the lock unless I hold the door very precisely. If there is any friction against the inside of the strike plate, the bolt may not retract fully. The bolt isn't supposed to ever touch the strike plate? Isn't that how most locks work? Why is that not taken into account by the design? I'd rather have a lighter bolt that retracts cleanly then the great big heavy bolt you get that is a heavy burden for the motor.I am returning this and getting a button combination lock. It took me almost a month to make this decision. Despite all the cons, it's really an elegant concept, looks great, and clearly a lot of care and love was put into designing and building this. I really wanted this to work and wanted to be a fan of this product and the company, but this lock should have never gone into production.

nothing like flushing $600 in a matter of 2 years
i really dig the technology, but this is my 3rd purchase. the first two just stopped working and recognizing my finger. so i had to use a key. i eventually through those two away. nothing like flushing $600 in a matter of 2 years. if or when this one fails i will switch to something else.but i do like not have to worry about being locked out and think it looks better than the number pads. anyone can use the number but there is only one fingerprint. i wish there was a way to update or improve on the one that i have. like a usb memory stick that downloaded the firmware over the web....hopefully this won't fail anytime soon, but just incase I've hidden a key so i'll still have access to the house.

Programming nightmare
A nice piece of hardware and installs easily. Difficult to program fingerprints and even more difficult for the lock to read them. Sometimes 4-5 times before it will read a fingerprint and several times trying to get it programmed in. Do yourself a favor and buy a push button code lock...you'll be much happier. A follow up- finally removed lock and replaced it with the original deadbolt. Wish it would have but it just will not work...was a total waste of money.

Randomly seizes up
Mine is 1 1/2 old and it randomly seizes up, not even able to lock/unlock with the key which basically renders it useless. Complete waste of money.

Company is color blind
Loved the idea of this product, but buyer beware. The oil rubbed bronze color is NOT oil rubbed bronze as you and I would think of it. The actual color is a copper color. When I called the company they stated that a few years ago they changed their ORB to a lighter ORB. Well the new color is not ORB lol... They then charged me to ship it back to them to get a refund..... If you are looking for ORB then do not buy from them, you will be sadly disappointed....I included an image of the "New ORB" against what a real ORB color should be do you can judge for yourself.Oh and sadly I did not get a chance to try out the the lock as there is no way I was going to keep this item even if it worked.... But it's heavy looks to be of good construction.
