While in trade school many decades ago, they taught us to use cooling for chisels and drill bits, I did dry drilling many times throughout the years, it works; however, cooling will extend the life of the drill bit for sure. One online resource said the following: If you don't cool, the material will harden and the drilling will get tougher. With special cutting oil, you cool both the material and the drill. This makes the drilling faster and more effective. The drill bits also last longer, because they stay sharp. Hope that this answers your question.

This drill bits did the job

Had a vinyl door with steel in the corners, the regular gold coloured bits would not touch it.Used a high speed corded drill and the cobalt drill bits got the job done easily. Definitely recommend.
