The last of the Doors' catalog to make it to CD, this album of spoken word performances and music comes complete with three new tracks: Babylon Fading , a never-before-heard performance; Bird of Prey , which features nearly a minute of Jim singing a cappella , and newl -recorded backing to The Ghost Song performed by Ray, Robbie and John.

Prayers answered
This is an incredible album in many ways. It was recorded after jim had shuffled off the mortal coil. The band had no new person lined up up to replace him, not that they could, although Ian Astbury came close(I thought) on the tour that they did a decade ago. So faced with the need to get a new album out there and the need to get vocals for the project eventually led to the great idea of using tapes of Jims spoken prose and set it to music. This setting of the spoken prose to new backing tracks cut in the studio and then editing it all into a coherent whole album works so well you would think that Jim was in the studio for the recording sessions. It is hard to believe that the mix and match was all done using a razor blade and great ears.I had forgotten about the Lament track.....Jim must have felt it important to write an ode to his chap, a sentiment I fail to agree with. Freud might have liked it, even used for a commercial if he had been around......I first heard it about 30 years ago and still love it. An amazing album and treat to listen to on a good hifi.

Almost a Ghost story
I originally purchased this on cassette back when it was originally released in 1979 and really liked it. Jim Morrison not only had a fine singing voice but his spoken words possess a timeless quality. It was initially quite well received by the music press at the time but was subsequently condemned as a shameless cash in by the surviving members of The Doors. The latter is unfair. This is a very interesting work with Morrison's lost verses combined with some fine musicianship from John, Ray and Robby. The lyrics and spoken words are often compelling and have a William Blake and Samuel Coleridge quality to them. This album is almost a Ghost story and Jim Morrison's words will haunt you.

Biased
I am VERY biased. I like everything to do with The Doors. This doesn't disappoint. However, it's saddening that the recorded material is the last we have of Jim Morrison. For the collector, the completist, and music aficianados everywhere.

Shaman and poet! Atavistic pleasure to listen
Shaman, poet, charismatic performer...all in one. American prayer is one of my favourite pieces created by Jim. Full of magic and new perception of world. World seen with eyes of Lizard King. Pure poetry that will linger in your mind and flow in your blood. Every time i listened to American prayer I felt like going into trans that led me to different levels of darkness, deepness, wilderness. Atavistic and prime. Still so intense... Lizard King welcomes all of us to experience the taste and flavors of shadows that are inside each of us... Enjoy Feast Of Friends!

Doors with a difference
Certainly a Doors album with a difference. I wouldn’t say I’m a great fan of poetry but this offering with Morrison’s spoken words and brilliant band music backing ,has grown on me over time.Give it a try,I don’t think you will be disappointed if you are a true Doors fan.
