Simple--just plug and use. It doesn't seem to matter how place the phone, It just works!

Fit for its purposes
My previous wireless charger holds my phone via gravity-triggered clips which doesn't hold my phone well (since there is no spring inside so the holding force is too weak). Therefore I bought this magnetic wireless charge to replace it.This magnetic holder does holds the phone pretty well. In addition to the magnets, the light gray ring you see on the charger is actually a rubber ring which provides more resistance to hold the phone in place. The magnetic patch attached at the back of the phone will not interference with not only this wireless charger but also the others. I tried 3 different wireless chargers with the patch on and all of them can charge my phone.Overall I'm quite happy with the product.
