very good product
I needed a block heater to help start two Sprinter diesel vans we own. This has been the coldest and longest spell of really cold winter in the mid Atlantic region in years. After wearing the battery out on one I ordered it and installed. Install is a snap even if your slightly handy. I followed the directions to a T and it was easy. Hardest was deciding where to rout the cord for easy access and yet keep it out of the weather. A cover for the plug would be nice because we will rarely use this and I don't want the plug corroding. Total install time maybe thirty minutes. The pad heats up really fast and really helps with starting. Very happy with the product and will be ordering another shortly.

Not Convinced, but Don't Know for Sure
Frankly, I couldn't tell whether this did anything at all. Of course, I was parked outside in Northern Minnesota in one of the coldest winters on record. So, at 24 below with additional windchill, just getting a car to start is a miracle. Having this plugged in all night, I'd still have to crank my key a few times. I could always get it to start. But it was difficult to tell whether it was because this thing was under my oil pan, or whether it was because I have a large battery and a fairly small engine (2001 Subaru Outback Legacy with the 2.5L.) My oil pan is small enough that there weren't any large, flat surfaces to attach this to. The instructions say not to apply it to anywhere that has slight ridges. Well, I did it anyway. It's stayed put without any problems. And I really doubt that impacted its performance much. But it's something to take into account.Doing it over again, I'd probably just with an internal heater and pay to have it installed. (No garage, no tools, so not draining my oil pan myself.) It costs more, but is also more likely to work better.

WA state Diesel assist (10 below).
Very easy install. Took about 45min and I was overkilling everything and taking my time. Ran cord from oil pan to battery on driver side (Chevy 1ton). My diesel starts up like its a hot summer day. The block heater I had installed didn't work well.

Like on a summer day
We live right at the Manitoba/North Dakota border, our winters are harsh. Installed this on my 1972 Allis Chalmers 170 and was surprised at how well it starts. Like on a summer day. I would strongly recommend it to those who experience -30 below temperatures.
