The Orbit 57069N Rain and Freeze Sensor is a hardwired device that automatically detects rainfall and freezing temperatures to suspend sprinkler watering. Featuring adjustable rain thresholds and a built-in thermistor, it protects your irrigation system and conserves water. ## Description

Product Description The rain and freeze sensor for sprinkler controllers is engineered to automatically detect rainfall or low temperature conditions and turn off a sprinkler controller until normal watering conditions return. It has water-absorbing disks which expand when wet, causing the controller to suspend watering. When the disks dry out and contract the controller returns to the normal watering schedule. It is adjustable so you can change the threshold for triggering a delay. It uses a thermistor to detect low temperatures and similarly suspends and restarts watering. You will typically mount the sensor on an eave or other open-air area, and a wire runs up to 30 feet to the rain sensor port of the irrigation controller. Compatible with 24 VAC controllers from Orbit, Hydro-Rain, and other major irrigation brands. From the Manufacturer The Rain and Freeze Sensor prevents your automatic sprinkler system from watering during a storm. The rain sensor is adjustable to accommodate rainfall from 1/8 In. to 1 In. The freeze sensor reduces hazards and damage to your pipes from freezing water.

**Q: What replacement battery does this unit require?**
A: The unit uses 2 each CR2032 batteries, they last for at least 3 years depending on the frequency of rain and freezing conditions thaqt exist at your location.

**Q: How long does the battery last before needing to be replaced?**
A: My factory installed batteries lasted about 3 months, the replacements I purchased from a discount store lasted 6 months. I think the radio is only active when it senses rain or low temp. So it is a smart design from the batteries point of view. Just expect the factory batteries to be old and not last a long time like a fresh set.

**Q: will it work with a rainbird timer ?**
A: Yes, I have connected to a rainbird timer ESP12LX PLUS.

**Q: What is the wireless range?**
A: The manual indicate there is a 200 foot line of sight range.  That means, of course, something usually less because of inevitable obstructions to line of sight, but that gives you an idea. Easy to install and works. Only problem I see is I think it should stop the sprinkler longer as I set it on the lowest rainfall setting and closed it up for the longest non-water time. After one day or two if rain is close to set time of watering pause, Sprinkler is back up and watering again?
