Confusing to new viewers, Masterpiece if granted time.
Garden of Sinners is a weird sort that requires more time than most to fully appreciate but on the second watch through so many things come together and suddenly make sense. I guess it would be best described as an incomplete jigsaw that is completed on the second watch through.New viewers might not be immediately taken by the confusing set up that the first segment "Thanatos" A.K.A Overlooking View thrusts you into. The characters, situation and location doesn't fully establish itself to you. Shiki, the Heroine, acts as a kind of antisocial protagonist but shows some slight compassion to Miyaki. I feel the first disk sets things up very well despite being purposely put out of chronological order and all the movies can stand well on their own without viewing the others. That being said, you could probably watch these in any order I would recommend against it as the point is to feel a bit confused at first. As mentioned before, it takes a long time to be accepted, 526 minutes to prove itself to you is a tall order. Most movies are fine to watch with a lot of horrific imagery/gore but the third movie ' Ever Cry, Never Life /Remaining Sense of Pain' contains some pretty objectionable content within the first three minutes that I'd rather skip.Otherwise, this is a fantastic movie boxset with top notch animation quality, the best of Yuki Kajiura's musical works (Especially with Kalafina) and the story is entirely complete when you finish watching. For expanded reading, this universe is tied similarly to Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime as it serves as one of Kinoko Nasus works. If you know what to expect from those anime, expect similar rules in play here. Enjoy it, it's worth the £60 price tag.

Need a seinen anime? This is it.
If you are into some mature murder mystery anime with some magical elements, or just a fan of Nasuverse and similar things, go and definitely buy it.The content may not be for everyone, the whole presentation in a non-chronological order certainly needs some brain-wracking, but I believe it pays off. Ufotable again did their best, so presentation quality may rival even many (if not all) recent anime.Price is decent, plus you will receive some postcards and a booklet that aren't anything special but for me as a fan of the series it was really something.Everything came in a nice box, undamaged, safe and sound.Subtitles are yellow and their visual quality doesn't really match the quality of the anime itself. Nonetheless, it's bearable. To put it short - if you are a fan of anime, definitely check it out.

Garden of delight!
Expensive box set, but then this is a masterful tour de force of animation from the different directors. The various stories revolve around the main protagonist, one Ryougi Shiki in an, at first difficult back and forth time frame, repeated viewing helps here! A series of supernaturally-powered characters are the sinners in this garden and come with a lot of blood and violence. Shiki gains the "Mystic eyes of death perception" after SHIKI goes and can see the way to cut anything, including people!I converted this one for ages before I just gave in and bought it!Worth every penny even though it misses two later installments...

One of my top favorites.
This is quite frankly one of my favorite Anime's all of all time. The order of presentation may be rather confusing to those who are newcomers to the series but once diving in, it is worth the confusion. Studio Ufotable have outdone themselves with this work, as with their other works such as Fate/Zero alongside the recently airing Unlimited Blade Works adaptation, with some of the most beautiful animation alongside Ghost in the shell: Innocence and fantastic soundtrack done by Yuki Kajiura. Now the box set itself:Let's start with its merits. The box is very sturdy and has some very nice artwork on the front and back. Each of the films thin packs come with its signature artwork, though sometimes proving hard to open at times. I also like the booklet, as giving a brief explanation of each of the movies along with each of the films directors and some promotional artwork along with postcards of each movie. Despite not being a Blu ray, the video quality is very good, just like with Stand Alone Complex DVD box set. Many Anime I view I usually preferred to watch them English dubs, as I don't like having my eyes glued to the bottom of the screen, not being able to admire what is going on screen. But Sinners is the only Anime I think where an English dub wouldn't work, the performances of the Japanese voice actors were amazing, no one fits Shiki better than Maaya Sakamoto, and I can't think of a single English voice actor out there who can top her performance.Despite all this, there were some things that bugged me. First of all the it was constantly pushed back from when I order back in October all the way to the end of December which annoyed me very much almost to the point of canceling my order, though after having a look at the manufacturers Facebook, I was assured of it's exact delivery. Now this next issue is what really annoyed me as both the animation and sound are great. The subtitles are awful, I didn't mind them being in yellow as of the films color pallet and it fitted rather well, but the font they choose sucked. Dull pixel-like font which was horrible to look at as there is no dub for this and it's my only means of knowing what the characters are saying. In conclusion:Kara no Ky'kai: The Garden of Sinners is an achievement, it blends together excellent story telling with great animation and music, it has it's flaws as with everything else, because nothing is perfect, but the merits absolutely outweigh it's flaws which makes this a must watch for experience Anime fans. Though I wouldn't recommend this to faint of heart, as there is rather a lot of gore, and takes on rather dark issues, like rape, suicide and overall purpose in life.If you can get past the bad subtitles, this product is an absolute steal at it's price, getting all seven movies, including the epilogue and so much additional features like the booklet and postcards.

Industrial strength
A special set of films, unconventional and challenging. The viewer is as often shocked as they are rewarded. The last disk is a short piece that is really quite beautiful and psychologically disturbing. The rest are films which are a masterclass from a group of directors. The overall production and animation are a real treat. The series demands another viewing because whole episodes are flashbacks it takes time to piece the whole together. After watching the second film with my brother-in-law, he exclaimed 'That was an episode?'. Only japanophiles with a philosophical bent need apply here.
