An ideological analysis of certain revolutionary themes; short on facts long on ideology
As someone interested in the theme of historical memory versus historical truth I had high expectations when I purchased this book. However, the author cares little for facts or for different interpretations of events. Very early in the work he dismisses, in a footnote, fact based works on revolutions which take a critical approach to the Marxist interpretation of events without ever engaging with the arguments. In short, and oh were the book short, an ideological screed for those who prefer ideological interpretations to facts and investigative history. I regret the money to buy it and the time spent reading it.

Not to miss
It is a fascinating book about revolutions. Well-argued and researched, it focuses on the French Revolution(s) and the October Revolution of 1917. Nonetheless, I missed other revolutions of the 20th Century, such as the Cuban Revolution or the Carnation Revolution.

Overall excellent book a must read for me

Important for an understanding of political revolutions in the the century
Really comprehensive and well researched book on political revolutions since the French Revolution in 1789. Good analysis of some of the key players in revolutionary movements and of their influences and the conditions that they fought under. Would've liked to see more coverage of the Mexico Revolution 1910-20 and of its impact not only in Mexico but also abroad. There was a section on Emiliano Zapata that was just waiting to be written. But that said, an erudite and broad ranging work.
