When the Lyngby vases were designed and by whom is unknown. The classic will have been created sometime between the end of the 19th century and the mid-1920s. The design is characterised by the German Bauhaus and the Functionalism starting at that time. Between 1936 and 1960 it became a success story of the Lyngby Porcelænsfabrik in Kongens Lyngby because of its simple elegance. After the closure of the porcelain factory near Copenhagen, the vase became a bestseller at Denmark's flea markets. After redesigning the vase in 2012, Lyngby Porcelæn returned to the classic in 2013, offering it in glossy and matt glazed white, followed by other colours, followed by clear and coloured glass vases in 2015.
