The Matchbox Diary

This is a great book and my class loved it. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is well written.Look up Philips Webbs project on this book (for Y3/4).

This is a review written by one of my Y6 students (Rosa) and is aimed at an audience of other children, hence the deliberately informal language:Spectacular - just amazing. I just loved this books so much, I jumped up and down with happiness. Even though it is emotional, I still really love it. Really WOW! If you haven't read the book, you need to read it. The absolutely fantastic author (Paul Fleischman) has done a fantastic job. The book is about a man (the granddad) and a child - his granddaughter. The granddad explains the main events in his life through the matchboxes. He wants to carry on and to inspire his granddaughter. And you can carry on, reader, from there. Good luck!

Lovely pictures and a lovely story. Shared with a year 6 class who enjoyed it as well as younger children.

An absolutely delightful book! The two classes I have used the book with thought it was amazing and wrote incredible pieces of writing inspired by this book! The best book I’ve brought in years for the class!

ordered this book as my son is studying it at school - lovely to hear him read it and talk about it at home - bought his lesson to me
