A medium sized cup. The monitor is good and seems to give true readings. The only slight shortcoming is that it only recalls the last reading - the very slight more expensive model enabled 3 recalls. Hope this helps. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent value *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 29 November 2010* For anyone who is concerned about their blood pressure, this monitor is ideal for carrying out regular checks at home between visits to the doctor. It's inexpensive, and easy to use, though it can be a bit fiddly putting on the arm cuff one handed (but that would be true of any "upper arm cuff" monitor).Note that, as others have mentioned in their reviews, this monitor uses 4 'AAA' batteries, not 2 'AA' batteries as the current description indicates (I've notified Amazon of this, but they haven't updated the description yet).If you have large arms you might want to consider getting the large cuff (sold separately). I'm 5'4" and overweight because of health problems, and the standard cuff only *just* fits my upper arm (the velcro strips only *just* overlap when the cuff is fitted, and I have to hold it in place to stop it unfastening when the cuff inflates). I bought the large cuff, and it's a much better fit - very secure while the cuff inflates. There's even just enough room in the soft nylon case to hold both cuffs, the monitor unit, a spare set of batteries, plus the user manual and BP diary, so everything is kept neatly together in the case.The readings appear to be pretty accurate - they tend to be a bit lower than when the doctor measures my blood pressure, but I reckon that's largely the result of not really being relaxed when I'm seeing the doctor, compared to being able to check my BP at home in more relaxed surroundings.Overall, I'd definitely recommend this monitor for anyone who needs or wants to check their blood pressure regularly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent - can't see need for anything more sophiticated *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 6 January 2012* This is a really nicely made unit, with quality components, and even comes complete with batteries (4xAAA). It is roughly 11x13x6cm in size, and reassuringly solid. The manufacturers claim that a fresh set of batteries should last c.300 readings before needing replacing.Once the batteries are in, you just put the cuff on your arm (over light clothing is fine), tighten it up firmly, and press the start button. It quickly and surprisingly quietly inflates the cuff, and then gradually deflates to take the readings. The whole process takes just over 30s. It's fast, discreet, and accurate, and at the current price (GBP 17) there's nothing whatever to criticise - a cracking little unit and great value.Why monitor blood pressure? Even if there is no cause for concern, blood pressure is a key 'vital sign' and keeping an eye on it from time to time is a good way to monitor general health, good or bad trends, and encourage lifestyle improvements (more fruit & veg, less booze & salt, more exercise). It can provide reassurance if the readings are good, or identify potential issues before they become sufficiently serious to necessitate a trip to the GP / A&E / RIP! However, self-diagnosis or treatment of any 'abnormal' results is not to be advised as that really is a job for the professionals.Some individuals see non-typical or 'false positive' results, known as white-coat hypertension, when blood-pressure measurements are taken by a doctor or in hospital. This may be driven by nerves or stress linked to the clinical environment, and the ability to monitor your own blood pressure at home in a less worrying environment may affect the diagnosis. This should always be discussed with your doctor, and with their agreement it may prevent unnecessary treatment. In addition to false readings caused by 'white coat syndrome', one needs to be aware of potential inaccuracies caused by attractive GPs (Clooney-Roberts syndrome) or nurses from the Benny Hill school of medicine (fishnet fever). I have no experience in this area, but am willing to submit to medical research if that would help. It is delivered with batteries for immediate operation but no carry case - keep that in mind when making your purchase! The blood pressure cuff is of medium size and if you are of larger size, remember that you might need a bigger cuff which you'll have to buy separately.Operation is very simple - there is only a single button, pressing which begins the measurement process. The device is very quiet and indicates function by a blinking icon on the large display - there is no beeping or other noises. At the end of measurement, it announces current pulse rate and blood pressure readings.Please remember that while this is a quality product from a good maker, it is also a very basic product - it comes with no memory function or any additional functionalities - hence, you should know what you are buying. People looking for a more detailed analysis as well as for memory storage of past measurements should purchase a more advanced device with more functions.
