Amen & Goodbye is the fourth studio album from Brooklyn-based band Yeasayer and the follow up to their 2012 album ‘Fragrant World'. The lead track “I Am Chemistry,” is a linear psychedelic journey proving Yeasayer still has the knack for writing very odd pop songs and features guest vocals from the legendary folk singer Suzzy Roche of The Roches. Moving away from a digital - heavy approach, Amen & Goodbye features Yeasayer’s trademark sound without sounding like anything the band has done before. They have created a collection of strange fables from the Bible from a universe that does not yet exist.

Sonically intelligent, jam packed with ideas and expertly arranged
Sonically intelligent, jam packed with ideas and expertly arranged. This band are clever and brilliant singers. Some great pop hooks, with hints of prog and rhythmically inspiring. Best work yet from the NY art house band.

Cerebral Fun
Yeasayer's fourth studio album, 'Amen & Goodbye', finds them very much in touch with theirinner-hippie. From the outset there's a whiff of Magical Mystery Tour and Nag Champa in theair but they are a pliant ensemble who have always worn their influences lightly and with flair. They have a sense of fun too and crack out some great tunes in this thirteen track collection. For a jolly time look no further than 'Silly Me' and 'Dead Sea Scrolls' but for greater cerebralstimulation inventions such as 'I Am Chemistry', with its extraordinary vocal harmonies; 'Uma',(a truly heartwarming invention) and the enchanting hymn-like melody of 'Prophecy Gun', alldemonstrate ear-popping developments in the band's hugely inventive left-of-centre evolution.(The clever little miniature 'Child Prodigy' deserves a smile all its own!)Top track : 'Cold Night' - a thing of beauty and seriously infectious!Essential.

Meilleurs, d'albums en albums...
Voilà un groupe qui avance, propose des choses encore plus fortes, plus profondes, toujours avec cette bonne dose de fun. Surement leur meilleur album à ce jour, maîtrisé, avec de très bon titres. Amen & Goodbye !

Yeasayer Carves the Future of Music
I waited four years for this album. I became a Yeasayer fan back in 2010 when I purchased their second studio album "Odd Blood," Immediately I fell in love with this atypical psychedelic experimental rock album and I became, what looks like will be, a lifelong fan. 2012 rolled around and they released "Fragrant World," which featured a more electronic and alt-dance style... again another winner. At this time I also purchased their first album 2007's "All Hour Cymbals," another outstanding eclectic entry that reminds me quite a bit of the funk-filled hooks of !!! (aka tsk, tsk, tsk). The new album "Amen & Goodbye" sheds the funk style that was an underlying factor in Yeasayer's first three albums and go more toward an experimental, electronic and futuristic pop-rock sound. This album is a huge leap forward from 2012's "Fragrant World."Much of the album has a strong "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" Beatles era influence with the use of unconventional instruments such as various Middle Eastern instruments and futuristic electronic productions. The production value of each song is well defined, crisp, clean and well thought out. Each song fits together cohesively and in a pattern that rings this album together as an experience on the whole as opposed to a collection of individual songs. Though to be sure each song does stand on it's own. This is Yeasayer's most focused album to date.Yeasayer is on the verge of shaping the future of music with this unique combining of electronic with classic pop-rock energies. This album is easily at home at a rage party as it is in the headphones of a classic rock fan.Suzzy Roche from the influential all-female folk band, of the 70's and 80's, The Roches, makes a few appearances on the album lending her backing and harmony vocals on "Half Asleep" and "Gerson's Whistle."The general mood of the album is reflective with a creative side.Overall this is a must have for anybody that is a Beatles, David Bowie, Joy Division or Pink Floyd fan as well as fans of Joywave, The Editors, The Helio Sequence, Cold Cave, Porcupine Tree and Underworld.

Complete Clash of the Previous Three LPs, Yet Distinctly Unique
Amen & Goodbye is a fantastic album. Each time I listen to this album, it grows on me a little bit more. There is a great blend of styles on this album that truly incorporates highlights from each of their three previous releases. The lyrics are smart and fascinating, to the point that you will want to research and understand the backstory. My only negative with this album is that it is too short. Although it has thirteen tracks listed, three of them are more like interludes rather than full-blown songs. The album rounds out at 39 minutes altogether, but I would have loved those interludes to develop into full tracks. That alone almost prompts me to make this a four-star album. The full tracks on this LP heavily outweigh this flaw, though. Overall, I highly recommend this album. It is completely worth it, even if the interludes act as teases to ideas that could have been expanded on.Highlights: Gerson's Whistle, Half Asleep, Prophecy Gun.

I pretty much agree with all the other reviews
4.5 stars. This album really grew on me after the first few listens. I pretty much agree with all the other reviews. Main complaint is that it's too short.* I just want to add, for some reason I keep hearing The Beatles in this album. Not for better or for worse....just some of the songs and moments make me thing of them.

Combination of Previous Work, Yet Moved Forward
Dropping the neo-soul, and incorporating electro-folk. Very progressive album for sure. With the exception of the interludes, all of the tracks are pretty good, some great (I Am Chemistry, Silly Me). The interludes aren't bad, I could just do without them.
