Turn the crank backwards until the degree wheel reads 8 degrees BTDC. 4. Align the distributor rotor with the cap location for the #1 spark plug wire. 5. Line up the magnetic pickup with the reluctor. 6. Just slightly rotate the distributor backwards from the normal direction of rotation. The contact points should be barely misaligned. Install the distributor and tighten it down. 7. The Initial Timing is now set for 8 degrees BTDC. **Q: This only advances by whole degrees right? Not 1/10?** A: Yes whole degrees. **Q: Is the Innova 3568 timing light "self-powered"?** A: No, it is not. It requires a 12V source to connect it to.
