Not the best book on Amy- poorly researched
I found this book to be littered with spelling mistakes, factually incorrect at times and just downright disappointing. The author appears to have badly researched Amy throughout and every rap artist she randomly compares her to. FYI- DMX is a rap artist not a rap group!I would suggest if you are interested in learning more about the late Amy Winehouse to invest in her father Mitch Winehouse's book or for an unbiased view Daphne Barak's book as these will both offer you a far superior insight into Amy's life.

A well written, informative must read
I haven't been able to put this book down and now I've finally finished it. Unlike other biographies out there, which simply rehash old newspaper headlines, I felt I'd been given a glimpse into the mind of a legend. The author interviewed lots of people close to Amy to support her work and this comes across in the book's tone.We get a look at the childhood Amy who struggled to see more popular and conventionally pretty classmates getting picked for roles in school musicals instead of her. She was even teased for singing out of tune. She felt like an ugly duckling, couldn't relate to her fellow pupils, and felt she stuck out like a sore thumb in a neighbourhood that included many orthodox Jews. Her parents' divorce increased her alienation. She was of exceptionally high intelligence and sensitivity, which was why at school she never fitted in. There's a story of a suicide that her problems led up to, but it's handled tastefully - or at least, much more so than the tabloids make it seem. The book talks of how music reunited Amy emotionally with her estranged father and saved her life - without it she would probably have been dead years earlier. We see the mischevious, cheeky side of Amy when, as told by one of her producers, she was arrested by a policeman for flashing him on the way to a recording session! she also got inspiration for one of her songs while rattling the bars of a monkey enclosure at a zoo they visited! Amy was truly at her happiest when she was involved with music. The book also talks about why Amy did what she did (like drug taking, the obsessive love affair with blake that she couldn't break off, the self-harm...) but it not just traces it back to her past but also looks at it through the eyes of trained psychotherapists to see what the driving force was behind her behaviour and why, in the end, no-one could save her.The author apparently has a psychology background, which might explain the emphasis on that, but it definitely sees her analysed in more detail and depth than previous biog I've read. it seems to have a lot of credible sources (including one of the backing singers who was onstage with Amy every night for years) and so you get the sense this all comes from real knowledge, not just hearsay.I really thought I knew everything about Amy - I've read all the books - but this proved me wrong. The only downside is I would have liked to hear more about Reg Traviss, but that's a small gripe. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend it. It's truly a tribute to the healing power of music, showing how Amy's music healed both her listeners and herself. In the end though, it just wasn't enough :(

Amazing Dad
This book was a great insight into Amy's life Mitch is an amazing Dad and did everything he could to get Amy clean i blame Blake for getting her hooked on drugs and his parents (if thats whst you call them ) were scum who didnt care. I thought Amy had an amazing voice and was a wild child who just wanted to have fun but didnt know when it was time to stop.A good read and what a legend.
