Decent
I’ll give the author credit for his research and authenticity. Unfortunately, this also leads to the book being bogged down by too many little historical facts and details, to the point where the book ultimately feels like you’re reading a school textbook. It’s well-written, extremely well-researched, and covers an interesting topic... but in all honesty, I found it to be very boring.

Book to go with a good beer
A great book about the pub. Written by an Irishman. Who could ask for more?I really enjoyed it. It's ideal pub reading in that it's full of amusing stories and trivia.Enjoy it with a beer or buy it for that person in your life who's impossible to buy for!

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I was surprised at the huge level of research and information. I thought the chapter on the history of Irish pubs in the US was wonderful. This would be a great present for anyone interested in Irish heritage or history.I've never seen a book like this before. I highly recommend it.

I found this book extremely well written and enjoyed the anecdotes and wry observations
I found this book extremely well written and enjoyed the anecdotes and wry observations. It makes a trip to the pub a more enriched cultural experience and makes me appreciate what a unique and valuableresource the Irish pub is. I think the author has done a great job of distilling down the essential essence of what makes the Irish pub great. The book is a bit like some commonly attributed cultural attitudes to drink in that 'it might not be the answer but its always the solution!'-Lawrence James
