I dig the hole, place a small amount of bone meal in the hole and then add the bulb and cover with soil. It works well for me. I bought a bag to add to my raised gardens along with blood meal to help revive the soil. I'm in Texas and plant year round so they need a boost. **Q: How much to add to tomato in 18" container?** A: This is not an exact science. I would take a fistful and work it into the top of the soil then water. Do this maybe 3 times during growing season. I use this in combination with tomato and veggie food and get great results. **Q: What are the ingredients in bone meal? What animal’s bones are used in this?** A: There is nothing about what bones are used. The packaging says the guaranteed analysis and then say "from steamed bones" **Q: Can this product be used on new grass? Should it be done before you throw the new seeds or after?** A: I would apply it before grass seed or sod; bone meal is really for flower/plant bulbs. I would find a cheaper alternative fertilizer for grass.
