The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover [Blu-ray]

Long time Peter Greenaway fan. Video replacement therapy. Everyone in this film is on top form. Especially Mirren and Gambon. Ian Dury doesn't seem out of his depth either! Good stuff!😃

Peter Greenaway does not do usual mainstream films. If you want a film that is unusual, striking and very different, give this a look.

A fantastically perverse and cruel film from Mr Greenaway at the peak of his provocative powers. It carries over some of the ideas and obsessions of Zed and Two Noughts - and adds many more! It’s a feast for the eyes (as they say) but might put you off your dinner. I’ve had a (decent) French DVD of this marvel for many years. Nothing terrible about it but there was no option to turn off the French subtitles. This is a good high def transfer to blu ray on the whole - and the richness of the colours and Maestro Vierny’s photography are nicely reproduced. It reminded me of seeing it all those years ago in the cinema. Unfortunately, a few digital artefacts have crept in (‘digital snowflakes’, I’d describe them as) that spoil a couple of edits between scenes. However, these are over in a flash and only a minor distraction. Bon appetit!

Good seller which I would use again

I NEVER WILL WATCH THIS DVD I ONLY BOUGHT IT BECAUSE THE GREATEST WHO EVER LIVED ALAN MCKENZIE HOWARD CBE APPEARS IN IT STARK NAKED IF I HAD BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE MRS HOWARD I WOULD HAVE STOPPED ALAN FROM MAKING THIS DREADFUL FILM I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO MEET THE WONDERFUL ALAN HOWARD AT THE GOH IN BELFAST BELIEVE IT OR NOT ALAN HAS ONE SON JAMES AND WAIT TIL YOU HEAR THIS JAMES IS A DAMN MARINE BIOLOGIST

Arrived on time, it's a good quality dvd but there is no credit leaflet enclosed. I remember the first time this move was realised and I could never find any copies around the web, I don't think it did that well on its realise but it's one I remember. A very theatrical movie, in the british film industry. Glad I've got this again in my collection. I did have this on vhs (video) but it disappeared in a tardis somewhere. Five star because its brand new, quality picture.. mostly has described and what to expect from dvd. Came in sealed packaging. Enjoy.

Being a fan of horror movies, Dame Helen Mirren has not appeared very much in my collection. I am not sure what shocked me most about this movie, the ending, or an actress I mostly know for portraying the Queen is flashing her bits all over the screen.It is a film that will stay with me for some time, as the ending is worse than some horror films I have seen. Very powerful film about the ultimate revenge.

The 2016 bluray is not a good transfer, there are numerous bad artefacts, particularly when scenes change. Needs a remaster.More to the point when will we see a complete frame by frame remaster of this extraordinary mans catalogue Arbelos, Criterion, Eureka, Imprint, BFI...Greenaways Masterpiece 'Prospero's Books' is not even on Blu Ray!

Wonderful surrealistic film - Helen Mirren is great as always

This is not a review of movie but about unprofessional seller. This blu-ray disc hasn't English subtitles as advertised.

Uma pelicula interesante y recomendable. No para todos los publicos , eso si. Puede resultar algo bizarra para los no iniciados. Una buena ocasion para redescubrir a una grande como es HELEN MIRREN.
