IOT Smoke detection.

These are a perfect replacement for smoke detectors that are hard wired in your house. I just unplugged the old ones and hooked up the new. You can also integrate them into home assistant easily and silence them remotely.

Won't Mount Flush to Ceiling & Minimal Alexa Connectivity

Does fit flush against the ceiling due to a bump on the top side. See picture. I understand that modern homes are wired with a box where this bump will fit. Nope. My home is 63 years old and doesn't have any ceiling mounted boxes. So I ran a power line to the area I was going to mount the detector. That was a wasted effort. I looked on line for an extension mounting bracket where this bump would fit. There is no such thing.Point #2, this device doesn't really connect to Alexa. It works with the voice feature of Alexa, but it cannot be added to "Favorites" in Alexa.Given the experience I've had so far, I question how well it's built, and will it really work in a fire? If there are these problems, what kind of quality was put in the guts of this thing?Ok, it's been 3 weeks since I wrote that. Now the alarm keeps falsely indicating smoke in the house. I can see there isn't on the security cameras. Kidde has not created a way to controll the alarm on the Kidde app, despite this being an "internet capable" alarm. The only way to stop the alarm is to remove it from the app, rendering it useless. This is negligence, pure and simple. I'm away. If my home were to burn now, I truly believe Kidde should be responsible for the damage.

so far, so good

So far, so good. I bought these (6 of them) to replace my old Kidde detectors that were about 7 years old. I was getting a lot of false alarms with those and thought I would rather replace them with smarter units so I can disable from my phone and also find the source of the alarm easier. Install was easy since they used the same power connectors. Its been a month, and I did have one false alarm, but I suspect possibly it was due to the fact that I did not test the alarms right after install, because i wanted to get my animals out of the house first. Two days later, it may have forced a test upon me, otherwise not sure why they went off. They went off when I was not at home, and I just silenced from my phone, so it was actually a good test and one reason why I bought smart detectors in the first place. My wife came home a few minutes later and was able to confirm there was no fire. Anyway, everything has been fine since then. So far, I would recommend these, especially if you already have the kidde adapters

Peace of mind, but read the directions…

These work great. They use an app that was pretty easy to download and install, the setup wasn’t too difficult either, and you can add people to be notified if the alarm goes off.First, if you are not comfortable working with electric wires or have never done any sort of electric work, are not comfortable working with electric wires- hire a licensed electrician. These attach to the built in smoke detector wires installed in a ceiling or wall and do require shutting power to those wires from your home electrical panel.Install was easy, I’ve done this type of work before so it wasn’t too bad.I found setup through the app was easy as well and I can test the alarms through my phone instead of using a ladder to reach a tiny button in the alarms. If you are cooking and the alarm is set off, you can use the app to stop it.Really nice features and an alert is sent to your phone.Good for peace of mind.

False Alarms regularly - Taking my 5 straight to the landfill

I researched before buying. I wanted interconnected devices that would also notify me on my phone in case I'm not home. Bought 5 to update my whole house. They're all upside down in the kitchen counter right now waiting to be recycled in the e-waste bin. Why? Lemme tell you...WAY too sensitive. They have gone off from candles in different rooms.False alarms in the middle of the night when nothing is burning as all.The last straw was a false alarm midday during a Zoom call for work. The middle-of-the-night alarms wake up the whole household in a panic, broadcasting "Fire! Fire!" while I'm trying to hush them with the app. Nope. The app doesn't stay logged in, so imagine the whole house freaking out while you're looking up a password. Instant madness. Find a ladder asap, unplug and put them in the refrigerator so others can't hear them. *They're hard to hush; I think because they are re-triggering themselves.*Also, if your internet changes it allll has to be set up again. Also, even though they're interconnected, when there's an alarm I get a text from each unit.Ready for the kicker? I contacted Kidde and a product support agent said:"When were the detectors last cleaned with compressed air as described in the maintenance section of the user's manual? Most nuisance alarms are caused by particulate entering the sensor area, such as dust or pollen. Flushing the device with forced airflow every 6-12 months is the best preventative for this. This should also be done immediately after any nuisance alarm."I've owned and maintained my own home(s) for 24 years and never even heard of having to CLEAN a smoke alarm. Much less ALL of them after EVERY false alarm. Maintenance section of the User's manual for a smoke alarm? Get real; this is the definition of a set-and-forget product.I'm going to replace them with cheap dumb smoke alarms.

Quality item, in retail packaging

Easy to set up, the Q-code on the back is all you need to set up your device on the Kidde app. This will only connect to a 2.4gig wireless network. Would be good to have the option for a 5.0gig wireless, but I'm sure it doesn't need all that data. My 2.4gig network is getting a bit crowded with the smaller bandwidth devices. I Works with Alexa and you can get notifications when your smoke alarm is going off wherever you are in the world. Have a neighbor check and see what's going on if you're away. This is peace of mind that goes with you.
