In the year 1600, during the battle of Sekigahara, warriors Kyoshiro Mibu and "Demon Eyes" Kyo - the legendary slayer of a thousand men - engaged in fierce combat. Both men disappeared when a meteor crashed in the battlegrounds. Four years later, Kyoshiro is spotted on a rural highway, acting as a traveling medicine salesman. He is captured by the female bounty hunter Yuya Shiina when she discovers that deep inside him is the dormant personality of "Demon Eyes" Kyo himself.

Not too sure why I bought this really....
Okay let me start by saying- I love samurai anime. Everything about the samurai genre just screams awesome... unfortunatly this anime really doesnt scream anything worthwhile atall. The setup for the story is quite interesting, with a legendary samurai known as demon eyes kyo becoming trapped in the body of the man who routed him in battle. Things all start out ok with this samurai being introduced. His personality is quite light hearted and he is essentially a comedy character, completely opposite to Kyo. The first time Kyo takes over our "hero"s body I actually thought hey... this could be a pretty awesome show! I expected some kind of constant inner struggle between our hero's two personalitys.... unfortunatly all hope of that is shattered as soon as Kyo takes controll again in the.... third? Episode maybe forth episode I dont remember (I only watched this yesterday by the way) anyways Kyo completely takes over from here on out with our light hearted protagonist seeming gone completely. I won't lie here... iv'e only watched 2 out of the 4 discs this boxset has to offer, maybe the story gets better? I doubt it. And even if it does improve.... story is only the begining of Deeper Kyos problems...The animation in this show is awefull. even for a low budget title. Actually calling the animation awefull is giving it too much credit.... you see this show is largly made up of still images... yep thats right still images. I would understand if it was only the "action scenes" that couldnt be animated (I understand budget constraints) but unfortunatly even the slow scenes with only diolougue sometimes are left with no animation. Characters will often speak with no mouth movement whatsoever... which is just appaling.Speaking of diologue.... voice acting.... the Japanese track sounds alright, as amatter of fact the voices are actually good-ish. But I must admit I have always prefered to watch anime dubbed, I find things more immersive this way as Im not constantly activly reading. (I know its down to personal preference really, so I'll stop talking about my preferences) ANYWAY the dubb is terrible. Absolute garbage. The worst thing I have ever heard. Several characters have issues with their accents which seem to inexplicably change from scene to scene and the voices that are consistant are consistantly overdramatic. NOT GOOD!Character designs are alright. With our main protagonist looking like your standard anime hero. Some of the supporting characters have some very nice unique looks about them. Unfortunatly even still drawings of all the characters are hit and miss, with characters body proportions being all over the place its completely mood shattering. Background music is fine if a little unremarkable. I would hardly describe any of it as memorable, but it isnt bad either. The opening and ending themes for this show are quit devoid of any sort of charm, and the animation that accompanys them is bog standard. As an extra on disc one you get an interview with the director.... this is probably the most interesting part of the whole package. I actually liked the director for this anime despite how rubbish it turned out and believe me it did turn out rubbish. So there you have it.... Terrible animation, terrible dub, terrible pacing, terrible almost everything. I gave up halfway. Very unproffessional I know.... but I have better things to watch, and so do you. Avoid this anime like the plague. Thanks for reading ^__^

An new anime that brings the old ways
Well the anime itself is brilliant storyline of a thousand man slayers spirit trapped in the body of an 'innocent' boy and so he awakes and take control of the body and pursues the body he lost in the battle long ago. To see how the story pans out, to see the imaginative storyline and excellent picture you should buy this item. All episodes are present so it is an actual complete collection unlike some other that claim to be. An excellent experience watching this anime and a purchase I was not disappointed with. A final note is although new, it looks and feels like a 20 year old masterpiece drawn similarly to the old style like "Akira" and the "Claymore" series.

super coffret

Esprit Kyo ?

Samurai Deeper Kyo
This is another awesome unfinished series. I wish the creators would take the animes as far as they take the manga books. It would be great to see the rest of the series on TV or at least a DVD collection.

You heard it too, didn't you....The Voice of the Wind.
Four years have passed since the battle of Sekigahra. On that day a legend was born....Demon Eyes Kyo.."The Thousand Man Slayer"Since then he has lain dormant inside the body of a medicine man..a healer named Kyoshiro Mibu but now Demon Eyes Kyo has awakened and the future as it was meant to be will now be forever changed. <--Intro As for myself this was a good series 3 1/2 or 4 stars. This series comes in a "Lite Box" which is all 6 discs inside a normal sized DVD case and a single divider, each disc overlaps the other. The format is an anamorphic W/S transfer & the voices are well done except for Benetora who reminds me of a bad George Bush impersonation. The outakes are somewhat comical just do not watch them before watching that disc as they are clips from what is about to come. You will not be blown away by the animation as it is several years old but still it is very well done...deep blues..rich greens. I did not notice any CGI to speak of I would classify them more as "Special Effects". The story itself is nicely done..to start with Kyoshiro is being hunted by a bounty hunter because he ate and ran leaving behind the bill. Just as the bounty hunter catches up with Kyoshiro so does a warrior whom begins to beat on Kyoshiro and not until severly beaten does Kyo's personality come to the surface. That is when you find out that Kyo has his own body to which he must find in order to return to it. While on that journey others join him and they learn that there are 5 legendary weapons, weapons so perfect that a Master can only produce one in his lifetime. Only when all 5 are joined together can history be restored to its true path. I will not break down the whole story for you but having the name "The Thousand Man Slayer" you have made alot of enemies. There is a lot of action but not tons of gore. This has a dark feel to it and while you are solving one problem it leads to another...who is pulling who's strings yet all the time it is part of the underlying plot. Characters are well developed and almost everyone you meet plays and important part. As I said I found this a very entertaining Samurai tale set in the 1600's. There are monsters...magical weapons. Kind of Fantasy/Samurai. The story moves forward and does not get bogged down at any point and the sound is nicely done...you do Not hear the sound of a gong (thankgod) when someone gets hits on the head only once or twice did I see the "Noodle Arms" effect. I have seen it twice and for me the replay was good..I still found myself interested all the way through on the second viewing. This is something I would suggest if you are interested in a serious story. This is not slapstick nor stand alone episodes it requires a persons attention. So if you get bored because there is not 20 minutes of action out of a 22 minute episode then this is not for you.

Pretty good story & animation
This is a fictional story, but some of the characters are named after and modeled on real people. If you like the samurai quest with a twist at the end type of anime, you'll like this one. It is a classic that fits story-wise with Basilisk. Different plot, but same genre.
