Recorded live at Hammersmith Apollo, Russell questions the values of heroes and leaders. ‘Messiah Complex’ is a disorder where sufferers think they might be the messiah. Did Jesus have it? What about Che Guevara, Gandhi, Malcolm X and Hitler? All these men have shaped our lives and influenced the way we think. Their images are used to represent ideas that often do not relate to them at all. Would Gandhi be into Apple? Would Che Guevara endorse Madonna? Would Jesus be into Christianity? He concludes it’s all a load of rubbish and encourages the audience to stop voting, ignore advertising, look to the transcendent within themselves and others...and kick over some bins on their way home. Plus there’s sex. Obviously.

Russell, you can do better!
I'm a big Russell Brand fan, I find him insightful, as well as funny. However, this stand up routine did not really hit the spot for me. I found him using a lot of the same punchlines as in previous stand up routines, resorting to type to often and a lot of it seemed rather forced and contrived. Having said that, there are a few nice touches, such as walking amongst the crowd (Morrissey, of all people, being one of the individuals Russell stumbles across), a fantastic improvisation/gag aimed at Gary Lineker and a nice 'taking down' of an audience heckler.Where this routine falls short is its lack of focus. Is Russell trying to educate us through his comedic acts? Probably, yes. Which is a good thing. However, he does not go deep enough. Therefore, you are left feeling really disjointed, as you expect some point, some lesson; which is in there, somewhere, but he does not bring it to the forefront enough.Ultimately, not funny enough and not poignant enough, just nearly there on both accounts.

Very funny, very clever, very embarrassing for certain types of idiot.
This is the work of a clever, funny, rather loud and extrovert man, it is a lot of fun!!!!! The subject matter, that of "Messiahs" or heroes by any other name, is incisive, and of course the parallels of the way that celebrities are treated in our culture of today. The only man I find as funny is Ricky Gervais, but there's not a lot of room between them as they are both nutters that are extremely smart! Hilarious stuff.

As watchable as Brand always is.
Purchased for my OH. As I was made to watch it (he's normally not my thing - Brand (although sometimes my OH too) - I actually found it quite watchable in the fact that Brand is certainly "interesting" to listen to whether you leave agreeing or disagreeing. Thought provoking, but not my type of humour. Certainly made my OH laugh...

Funny funny funny
Funny funny funny. I know he is certainly one of those Marmite people, but give this a chance and I promise you will find yourself laughing a lot, even if you feel you shouldn't!

Learn some, puke some and laugh some
I know a lot about the size of his penis now and what he likes doing with it. He probably speaks like a lot of men in his mind when they are talking to women about the cost of living. I find the guy totally refreshing, and in between alll of what he has to say he speaks a lot of sense. A thoroughly fun DVD to watch.

Poignant and hilarious as always
Russell’s command of the English language combined with his ability to turn every subject into a sexual innuendo will leave you in stitches!

Astute - a genius
Absolutely hysterical ...Russell Brand takes comedy to another level. He can be very near the knuckle but his genius and astute insights into how this world works - or doesnt is breathtaking. I was laughing so hard it hurt...all the way through.
