Traditional Irish Wooden Flute with Case in key of D - Dannan

I play a classical flute anyway so expected to be ok with this one but it is not the case. Not one to give up easily, I intend to persevere with it as I am sure I will get a tune out of it eventually. I think it not a good flute for learning on unless the student is willing to persevere. Its construction appears good except for the embouchure (mouth piece) as the closed end cap was way too loose but I rectified this myself quite easily.

An absolutely unplayable flute. Mind, I wasn't looking for a high-quality instrument, just something light and portable that I could take camping with me and not feel too bad if it got nicks here and there. But this was beyond disappointing, even for a cheap throwaway.It barely made a sound out of the case, but I figured it just needed some oiling. That actually helped a lot BUT, in the process, the end cap came off and inside was a piece of polyurethane foam, probably used to "tune" the flute to the correct key. Really? That's the instrument equivalent of throwing a sugar packet under a wobbly table leg. The finger-hole placement is off and the low D, E and F are a full half-step sharp. It's slightly less noticeable on the higher octave, but still there, meaning nearly 50% of the notes are off-key. No amount of "playing in" will fix that.I gave it one star only because I had to. I suppose it's very pretty, but I'm sure lighting $85 on fire is pretty too. Next time I'll just do that.

Don't waste your time or money on this. Foot joint completely different color, cheap case, but the deal breaker was the terrible craftsmanship as the tone holes were crooked, not undercut, and is unplayable.

It was unplayable!! I've played flute for 10 years and I couldn't play it.
