(Have also emailed seller)** A: Very easy; it slides in and out. As with all tuneable whistles, it is suggested you lubricate the slider part regularly (I do mine monthly whether or not I am playing them. Any synthetic grease will do. **Q: Why does the photo of the whistle look different to the one on the Dixon's website?** A: Yes **Q: how do you tune whistles** A: Provided the whistle has a tuning slide - often made of brass or some other metal or alloy - you blow with fingers covering all holes to sound a d note with both halves of the whistle pressed together. This is the lowest note on a d whistle. You have to blow softly. Now compare this - if you have a good ear with the d above middle c on a piano. If the d on the whistle is higher then pull the two halves of the whistle apart - just a little - and carry on making small adjustments until the d’s match. If you don’t have a good ear then use an electronic tuner with a microphone - you can buy iPhone and android apps or even buy a complete tuner system such as those made by Korg & others. The tuner should be chromatic - able to recognise any note. Make sure whatever you buy has a microphone - clip on guitar tuners are really not suitable. Now you can tune to any note you want - see the note diagram that comes with your whistle which shows which holes to cover for particular notes. You probably will never get a perfect match for all whistle notes at the same time - so aim for about 10 cents away from the note. The tuner documentation should explain this. If the whistle doesn’t have a tuning slide you can’t tune it. It is the first mid-tier whistle I've owned and its very nice to play and is quite nicely intonated. The tone, of course, does not compare to metal or wood but it is surprisingly pleasing and mellow. It makes for a useful whistle for intermediate learners as it isn't too loud.
