It applies smoothly, doesn’t bleed under the design, and gives a clean, professional finish once heat is applied. I found no smell with the paste and the paste turns the wood a yellow color, so you know we're you have already added the paste. I've used the same bottle container of paste for the past 6 months. Review: Works perfectly, starts darkening so you can see where you’ve coated - This is a thick paste that I found was easy to apply with a cheap foam brush. I made my spartan sign out of unfinished pallet wood and did not pretreat…I do think I sanded the wood but it wasn’t a very nice job. I used permanent vinyl for the stencil and due to its size (~3’ x 2.5’) i had to cut multiple stencils and try and align them. What I LOVE and wasn’t expecting, is the paste starts darkening on its own so you can see where you’ve put it down. I was very concerned with how it would work when I was trying to piece all the stencils together, but after seeing the sections I had done darken up, I was able to apply each section of the stencil separately and get seamless results. While I used a regular torch and it worked, I would recommend using and industrial heat gun (not the craft kind for around $20 they aren’t hot enough) because a regular torch tends to want to burn the unprotected wood around intricate designs like lettering.

**Q: Wood burning paste for darker results, need thicker paste and professional heat gun tools?**
A: Only a uniform or thin layer of paste is sufficient. More heat can achieve a darker effect, which is a corollary. The heat gun has a power of 1000 watts and the temperature is above 400C/700F, you need to keep the moving heating. If you need precise burning, I recommend that you replace the nozzle with a smaller diameter heat gun

A: The Scorch Paste bottle is marked as 3 OZ/Jar and the actual weight is over 3.3 OZ/Jar, which I think is well worth it for the current price. It's likened to a mini jar the size of a computer mouse, but with just a little paste to complete the project well. It can use a lot of items, 10 inch x 10 inch project more than 30 should be fine！

A: As long as you use it correctly, both ways are fine. I recommend vinyl stencil, effectively prevent leakage under the template and easy to use. Regular plastic stencil needs to be tightly attached to the wooden to play well.

Purchased a cheap cutting board from goodwill for my first project, found a monogram on cricut, used permanent vinyl. I didn't have a squeegee so I used a sponge and dabbed it 2× to make sure it was completely covered. Then I used a paper towel to wipe it off. It says to let it sit for 1-2mins but I accidentally let it sit for 30mins and there was minor bleeding. I had my heat gun set to 650 and held it probably an inch off the board. I will say it took probably 35 mins to get it to this darkness. It didn't burn the outside of the image only slightly discolored. No smoke or smoke smell. Nothing too noticable. Overall I'm pleased with the product and would recommend. Will be trying different temps and different woods. This was a bamboo board. The item arrived with some leakage In the plastic bag. Wiped off easily. No harsh smell.
