A supplement for someone who doesn't use supplements
My ex-wife has been using MyProtein Inulin and recommended I start using it. After reading the back of the packet I bought this version instead. Two reasons:1. MyProtein warns that it might contain eggs, milk and soya. They warn on this because they don't have a sterile manufacturing facility. That puts me off.2. MyProtein don't say anywhere on the pack or website what the Inulin is made from. Homework Health is pure powdered chicory root, which is what I wanted. Why use it?:Anyway, why Inulin at all? I first heard about it on Angela Ripon's TV show about ageing, then on Michael Mosely's show about insomnia, I am not a person who uses supplements, and only take what a doctor tells me to, but I have recently been diagnosed with mild fatty liver and need a lower fat, lower sugar, higher fibre, more exercise regime, and to lose around 5 pounds.Inulin will not directly help much with the fatty liver, but it will help more generally with gut health and core fat. I am mostly using it as reminder of my good intentions. Using Inulin multiple times a day reminds me to eat a raw carrot instead of a biscuit, and skip pudding. How I use it:The recommended amount, depending on where you end up after a Google search, is 10-20 grams a day. I am using 10.Half a teaspoon each in four hot drinks a day is 5 grams, a teaspoon in my porridge is 2.5 and a teaspoon with either lunch or dinner is the final 2.5. To get up to 20 grams I would simple double all those amounts. You CAN sprinkle it on a plate of food, but it looks weird and puts me off, so I only add it to liquids, or at least semi-liquids such as baked beans (the reduced salt and sugar version, of course).Taste and consistency:It has a slightly sweet taste. To give you a sense of how sweet, I'd say it is about 25% of the sweetness of sugar. I used to add half a teaspoon of sugar to my tea - two teaspoons of this tastes about the same.It mixes in very well and there is no residue. If you plonk a spoonful into a cup of tea you will end up with a lump of it on the spoon which will go after a bit of vigorous stirring. So instead, sprinkle it in then stir and it full dissolves immediately. There are 11 calories in 5 grams, so my regime adds an irrelevant 22 calories a day.Does it work?:My liver won't be checked again for years, so there will be no way of knowing. I am the sort of person that wants immediate and measurable results, so this does bother me a little. However, I am comfortable that at the *absolute* minimum I am adding some fibre to my diet. Anything else is a bonus.Verdict:£10 for six weeks supply, is not a trivial cost, but is certainly affordable, especially now I am skipping lattes. It is very easy to use, does not ruin the taste or consistency of food and drink and, according to multiple sources (but *not* the NHS), is a beneficial supplement. I'll stick with it.

Just what the doctor ordered!
Having seen a medical programme on the BBC thes prebiotics were highly recommended not only for the gut but also as an aide to sleep. My husband has been taking them for a few days now and has already noticed a difference both with feeling less bloated and staying asleep for longer than usual. I hope that the improvement is long tern!

Pleased with the results
We started using this several months ago after seeing Dr Michael Mosley’s programme about sleep and methods of improving it. Within a few days we both noticed a distinct improvement in our sleep pattern so have continued using Inulin and have recommended this product to several other people. We certainly don’t plan to stop!

Fingers crossed
Bought this after neighbour sold me on it for maintaining a good night sleep. I'm useless at sleeping and only 3 days in but do feel more rested having been able to fall back to sleep easily on waking (at 3:30am). Seems ok so far!

Excellent
Having found out that prebiotics are more important than probiotics, I was pleased to find this economical way of taking them. Very pleasant to take off the spoon, tastes like candy floss!

Misleading label
Very, disappointed in this product. Buyers beware.Purchased thinking it was chicory root inulin powder, but now see that it contains 10% sugars (fructose, Sucrose and glucose). My partner cannot have sucrose and I avoid added fructose. Waste of money.

Highly recommended nutrition supplement
This product was recommended by my expert nutritionist, and I find that it is very helpful with my digestion and absorption of nutrients from my specialised diet. I will indeed continue to purchase this product, as it is highly effective and excellent quality.

My visceral fat has dropped 3% already!
Fantastic product. I add it to my protein shake. Mixes well, no lumps, no tastes. Great! Does not affect my blood glucose as I am diabetic.
