Go to a professional and pay the extra instead.
Just forget about doing it yourself. You need to literally strip your existing steering wheel well enough for this to bond to the leather. The prep work has to be 100%

Great product - just take your time!
I used this to restore a Zafira steering wheel with 110k miles on it. I didn't hold out much hope, as the wheel was really tatty and worn. The instructions said not to use the filler on the main leather area, but I ignored that and carefully and thinly applied the filler. After drying it took some time to sand the filler nicely. I found that I could apply the colour, see how it looked and then rub down or fill more as required. After finally colouring and fixing the colour, the finish is unbelievable - you can't tell that the wheel was ever worn. I've used the wheel for around 6 months since I restored it and the finish is still perfect. I can't recommend this enough - but you do need to take your time. I did mine over two days.
