Tecsun PL – 380 FM/MW/LW/SW Portable Radio World Receiver Stereo Earphones, USB Cable

First, if you are in a great hurry to receive this radio, be aware that it comes from China.The total time from Order to Delivery, for me, was 10 days; but to be fair this was just one day into the estimated delivery period. Progress can be tracked via Singapore post.This radio is very versatile and has many features but it does not come with instructions in English.However, if you want to know all about the radio before buying, I recommend that you do a Google search, “Tecsun PL380, English Manual” which will bring up all the instructions in a PDF.Now to pick out some of the features:-If you locate the radio stations you like (in any waveband) you can then store them, in turn, into memory. Then turning the tuning wheel will take you to each station, in sequence, without having to locate it.The Volume wheel increases the volume in steps which appear as numbers on the screen. This enables you to easily select the volume for any station.The clock can be set for 24 hour or 12 hour display.The alarm can be set as a buzzer or for radio. The duration of the alarm can be set for any time between 1 and 90 minutes. There is also a ‘snooze’ button; pressing this when the alarm comes on will delay it for 5 minutes. And, if you wish the radio to continue beyond the alarm time you have set, just a light press on the power button will enable it to continue.There is also a ‘Sleep’ setting where you can set the radio to switch off automatically after a time period that you have selected.With the power ‘Off’ the display will show the time plus the temperature or, alternatively the alarm set time. With the power ‘ON’ the display shows the radio frequency and temperature. The condition of the batteries (3xAA) is always shown.If you wake in the night, and want to know the time, a button in the top LH corner will light up the display.The size is 135(W)x86(H)x26(D)mm. This will indicate that the speaker is relatively small; meaning that music is not produced too well but speech is fine. I guess the radio itself is ok, but the package contained operating instructions ONLY in what I presume to be the chinese language, (maybe japanese). I found it very frustrating trying to figure out how to work the radio , and still haven't managed yet.If the radio is for sale in the English market, then surely it would help to include operating instructions in English.Thank you. The radio arrived with no instructions in English, they were all in Chinese! I managed to eventually download an English version, which is still not well written.At first sight it appeared to meet my requirements, however one main reason for buying this was to be able to listen to the radio coverage, on LW, of the Ashes; we live in an area where there is no digital coverage. The radio does not pick up a single station on Long Wave.The other bands do not appear to be too bad, but there is no ricket coverage on them!!

this is a damn good little radio

This item is much better than most alarm clock radios mains powered or otherwise. The alarm and location control is brilliant. My only criticism is that the temperature gauge was off by a significant amount, so i tried to encourage an update.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this lovely little radio despite having owned one for 3 years.This is a great set it came with rechargeable batteries, a USB lead,a multi voltage travel plug,head phones in a little leatherette case and a case for the radio.It works really nice and the battery life is good.The only negatives are the instructions aren't very clear and the radio is a bit complicated to use at first,but other than that I am very happy a Tecsuns customer service is first rate as well.

Got this for my trip to Africa as I cannot sleep without radio in my ears. The unit is small and light and comes with rechargeable batteries, which do indeed recharge via the supplied USB lead. It seems to pick up all the SW stations you could wish for, and I got BBCWS pretty clearly all the time it was broadcasting. Didn't need an extension aerial, although I'm sure the experts would tell me this would have made things better. The ETM function, where it scans through and picks out the frequencies where there is a station, makes scanning through the stations much easier. I like the round manual tuning knob, too. Having a thermometer in built, although it seems a bit odd in a radio, was really useful. Obviously this radio can do much more than I did with it, but I thought it would be useful to put out the opinion of a rank amateur as well. Very handy piece of kit, at a great price. Highly recommended.
