Great torch! Be sure to get butane with correct type of filler nozzle.
Great culinary torch! Easy to use. I was unaware that butane cans had different kinds of fuel nozzles. I found out quickly that the first can of butane I purchased didn't have the correct kind of fuel nozzle. When I tried to fill the torch, the butane just spilled out. You must use butane with the universal tip, typically used for filling lighters. After looking at several stores, I found Bernzomatic butane at Home Depot. This particular brand has a white tube filler valve (see photo). Once I got the correct butane, the torch was easy to fill and worked perfectly. I'm very happy with my purchase. Communication with the seller is great! They really want you to be happy with your purchase.

A time saver for a single person who likes the taste of grilled food without the mess
This inexpensive torch is easy to use and fabulous! I love the idea of putting steaks in the toaster oven at a low bake at 225 for 15 min. then into the fridge, then torch when ready to eat. Perfect and no muss or fuss! Anything to make cooking easier. I did it with hot dogs the other day - torched them instead of firing up a charcoal grill for one person in Florida heat. A no brainer! Highly recommend this gadget that takes up so little space. When I have company next, I'll use it for crème brulee!

Great product! Don’t forget the butane.
I bought this to try a recipe for Crème Brûlée cookies, which requires the carmelization of sugar on top, as in traditional creme brûlée. It’s a quality torch and works as directed. Easy and fun to use! The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars is that the Amazon product description should have indicated that the butane fuel was sold separately. This item arrived on the day before Thanksgiving, so I had to dash to a hardware store to buy some butane, otherwise I would not have been able to use the product the next day (holiday). For those unfamiliar with butane fuel use, it would also be nice to have a bit more guidance on how much fuel to put in and about how long a filling would last (e.g. 15 min. of continuous use). The weight of the filled torch was not noticeably heavier to me, so it was hard to tell when it might be getting empty.

Instructions are there!
At first I was upset because I didn't see any instructions in the box and I just figured it out myself. So easy to fill and use. Then I looked at the box and saw the instructions on the side! They were what I had done so I was feeling pretty chuffed. Great product for the price!

Nicely built and effective.
This is a neat little torch. Seems very well built and definitely does the job. Only one thing I had to figure out was to start it on highest setting then lower it, rather than start slow and go up.

ALMOST EXPLODED - Dangerous Product; Don't Waste Your Time!
Upon receiving BI Distributor's "Kitchen Sophisticate" torch I filled it with just enough butane to adjust the flame. It worked well for two or three short uses, but while attempting to refill the tank, butane leaked an unusual amount on my hands and enough to drip on the floor. The tank wasn't full, the valve was clearly defective so I figured just return it. I wanted to give it one last shot, and before writing this review I fired the torch up.THE THING ALMOST EXPLODED!A massive flame shot out, almost melting my computer monitor. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK! It is dangerous and clearly the manufacturer doesn't care about their products passing inspection, or injuring customers! I will be sending it back for a refund immediately!

I'm happy to use it since i have it, but if it broke I'd replace it with a different brand.
It's a kitchen torch, and it works. I'm happy to use it since i have it, but if it broke I'd replace it with a different brand. My biggest complaint with this has to be the inefficient fuel burn. As a simple test to see how well the fuel and air mixture burnt, I heated the surface of a tub of clean water. This left oily streaks floating on top of the surface of the water, indicating to me that fuel was passing through without being ignited. This means that heavy use can impart chemical flavors onto the food, and you're wasting fuel. This will happen with any torch to some extent, but this one wins no points on efficiency. To combat this, don't overfill the fuel tank, turn the flame dial down, and increase the distance between the torch and the thing you're searing. My second complaint is the safety and triggering mechanisms. The little red pin on the back of the handle seems like it should be a thumb-safety similar to those on certain pistols, but it's not. The pin must be depressed, as well as the side safety, and this makes using the triggering mechanism cumbersome.Aside from that, it works. Filling with fuel was quick and easy with no leaks. Once ignited, the torch seems to maintain an even, consistent flame.Calling this a "professional" culinary torch is wildly inaccurate. Even foodies with demanding torch needs (sous vide owners, take note) will find this unacceptable. If your needs are the occasional holiday or special event creme brulee, this will be fine. Anything more demanding should consider a better option.

Works fine and is safe to use
The product works as expected. Very important to me is security with such tools. This one interested me a lot since you must press one button continuously to have the flame. If you happen to drop it, the flame stops! You have another feature to keep the flame without having to press the safety button, too.
