Somethings can’t be modernised
These sticks are great, you can carry spares and they last between 4 and 6 hours then you can put another in unlike a battery one once that’s ran out. Can be a bugger to light but with a decent gas torch lighter that’s no problem at all. I’d never change to battery ones as long as I can get these, my only complaint, why can’t you get a bigger pack.

A little hard to get going, but they will burn
I was a bit wary of buying these as so many people had reported difficulty in lighting them. I got them for my wife for xmas, and warned her about the negative reviews, but she said that although they are harder to light than the original ones that came with the hand warmer (circa 1980) she does manage to get them going and uses them regularly. She lights one end and leaves it in there burning with the case open for 5 or 10 minutes on the dashboard, then it is good to go. She said if you light it and close the case up straight away it will go out though. So, hope this helps, I am glad I bought them.

Like trying to ignite water
These are rubbish. They don't stay lite. You can't get them to warm your hands as there is no heat generated. Totally useless

Hmm I'm not sure yet
Seems like they go out and keep having to re light the coal I'd go for 2.5 stars but there isn't a 2.5 so have rounded up, I light both ends but it burns quicker but with more heat. Keeps warm when going. Would have gone for a petrol one knowing they done petrol ones.

Tried it...it worked
There are always mixed reviews when it comes to these sticks. I took a chance on these because the price was so cheap compared to others. What I wanted from these sticks was to light it once and forget about it hoping they would stay lit and burn. To my surprise, they did exactly that. The fuel composition may be a little different than other and i have noticed a milder and longer burn resulting in a less violent heat source than other brands. I didn't mind this because of that price. My best advice is to just buy one pack and see for yourself, if you like it, buy more. If not, it's only a couple of quid lost! Also, yes you can smell them because you are burning fuel and burning fuel doesn't smell of nothingness or roses. Hoped that cleared some questions up :)
