Review: Perfect as requested - Everything was perfect, the size was as requested. Lenses are orginal. Delivered in good time. Just small thing, I would if they provided the company case because it just came to me in its own glasses box. But every thing else, was exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much.
Review: Great fit with 69mm, and trying to determine history - So I recently inherited some older Porsche Carrera 5621 40s from my late uncle. They're gold frames with some scratched lenses (the lenses having some older "Porsche Design" branding). The 5621s also came with two pairs of lenses, but my uncle's case didn't have another pair. From what I could tell with descriptions and superimposing pictures....it looked like the 5621 and p8478s had identical frames. I've read that the 5621s came out in 1976 and the p8478s came out in 1978. Considering the designs looked so similar, I wondered if perhaps the design was first with Porsche Carrera...then Porsche wanted a separate brand for the p8478. I saw that the p8478 J (black and silver) was on sale, and could compliment the gold frames of the 5621s. I could also test my theory that they were related glasses. My uncle's 5621s are the largest size (some people claim 70mm, but if I measure the way you're supposed to with the 8478s, they're also 69mm). My aunt mentioned she really liked the sunglasses on me. When I got the p8478s, I did hold them to the 5621s, and they are indeed the same size and shape. The 8478s also being new really fit me well: comfortable and snug that doesn't budge when I suddenly move my head. I've seen one other review about the 8478 vs 5621. Well the 5621s were a different manufacturer (manufactured in Austria). The current 8478s are manufactured in Japan. It turns out I can fit the 5621 lenses with the 8478s (there's a little bit of a rattle). The 8478 lenses won't fit the 5621s though: they are noticeably thicker and have an indentation on the anchor that's in the hinge. I do like the fact that the lenses easily lock in and don't have any wiggle. As for replacement lenses for the 5621s, you may luck out in not getting a scratched used branded pair on E-bay. I'm getting a series of different colors to try from Sunglass Fix (which is known for having replacement lenses for different brands). I think the black frames with the 8478s will look good with blue mirrored lenses (have ordered the V649 lenses). I know the 66mm and 69mm glasses have gotten popular again: especially with women after the Kardashians. My uncle was 6'1'' with an average face shape (IE not wide or long). I'm also a male that doesn't have a face that's particularly wide or long. I do have a prominent chin, and the bridge is such that the lenses aren't touching my face. With the two sunglasses with different lens choices, it's great that I can decide what configuration I want for driving glasses vs outdoor glasses. Another note about the product I bought: I also like that it came with a substantial plastic hard case. I've seen some unboxing videos of these model glasses, and they're a foldable soft shell case.
